An almost perfect number seven for Michael Gullqvist

Michael Gullqvist won his third consecutive FIA European Pro Modified Championship in 2017, his sixth FIA title out of the last seven years and the seventh FIA title in the Swede’s illustrious Pro Mod career. Gullqvist claimed that seventh trophy in style as he only lost one elimination round this season, scoring an almost perfect 19 to 1 win/loss ratio and reset the European record to 5.833 seconds at Tierp Arena in August.   Continue reading

New first class drag strip in Kauhava, Finland

FHRA Marketing Oy and LSK Business Park Oy have signed a mutual agreement to build an international level drag racing arena at Kauhava airfield, Finland. The construction work will start almost immediately and the track will host its first race in August. From 2019 Kauhava will be the new home for the FHRA Nitro Nationals, the Finnish round of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship. Continue reading

PiPPi Willén track announcer for EDRS Pro Nordic MC

PiPPi Willén will be the expert track announcer at all four races of the 2018 EDRS Pro Nordic Motorcycle Championship. Speedgroup contacted Willén as they were looking for an announcer for the whole series with knowledge of the sport and the EDRS Pro Nordic MC as well. It’s been in the plans for a few years and now comes to fruition. A track announcer who attends all races will know the ins and outs of the whole series, the championship and the highlights of previous races and in that way is a valuable asset to the series. Number one for Bengt Ljungdahl

The 2017 season was one to remember for Bengt Ljungdahl as the Swedish driver won his first FIA European Pro Stock Championship. With the blue VP Racing Fuels backed Chevrolet Camaro, he succeeded the other blue Camaro of 10-time European champion Jimmy Ålund. With the number one on the car, Ljungdahl will go for another title in 2018, but as the competition in Pro Stock is extremely close, he knows it will be tough. Continue reading

Santa Pod Raceway completes the new concrete track

The build of the brand new state-of-the-art Santa Pod Raceway concrete quarter mile track has been completed. Last Saturday the two highest bidders in an online charity auction became the first drivers to traverse Santa Pod Raceway’s brand new, all-concrete race track. A new drainage system and a full refurbishment of the spectator grass bank was also part of the project. Continue reading

Sascha Pretzsch steps up to Top Methanol Funny Car

No big announcements, but observant Facebook drag race followers must have taken notice of the short posts about a Swiss racer crossing the ocean to pick up a Top Methanol Funny Car. That Swiss racer was former Competition Eliminator driver Sascha Pretzsch, and yes, he is the new owner of the ex Sir Geoff Goodwin, Greg Hunter driven Synoil Racing TAFC Chevy Monte Carlo. Still a roof, but no doors anymore for Pretzsch, who will make his TMFC debut later this season, to go for a full FIA European Top Methanol Championship assault next year. Continue reading
