Not business as usual for Michael Gullqvist in 2017

gullqvist_2016_champ.00

After an unfortunate period half way through the 2016 season, Michael Gullqvist took the FIA European Pro Modified Championship in style by dominating the European Finals and retaining his title. With five FIA European Pro Modified Championship titles in the last six years, Gullqvist is the man to beat in the ultimate doorslammer category of drag racing. But it will not be business as usual for the Swede, as he will have to do it without long time crew man ‘Turbo’ at the track, and with an almost brand new crew. Continue reading

Let’s get 2017 started

pre_2017_kop

With the fireworks extinguished and the champagne bottles empty, 2016 is history, so let’s get 2017 started. The 2016 EDRS Pro Nordic Motorcycle Championship was exciting all the way, but also hampered by, let’s call it ‘incalculable’ weather. Kalle Lyrén and Samu Kemppainen lived up to their high expectations, while Thomas Pettersson and Henri Kolehmainen were maybe less obvious champions. For the next eight months they are the proud owners of the number one plates, but at the end of August, after four new and exciting race meetings, new history will be made. Continue reading

A new year, a new season on the way

calendar_makela_2

The 2016 FIA European Drag Racing Championship was a great one, with three out of five titles decided in the penultimate runs of the season, the semi-finals of the European Finals at Santa Pod Raceway. But that was 2016, and with 2017 just started, it’s time to look ahead. Anita Mäkelä, Michael Gullqvist, Jimmy Ålund, Johnny Oksa and Jonny Lagg will wear the number one plates for the next nine months. In six great race events, they will try to keep ahead of the ever stronger competition. Continue reading

Anita Mäkelä clinches the title in a semi-final Top Fuel thriller

Anita Mäkelä FIA Champion 2016

Anita Mäkelä

For almost ten minutes Anita Mäkelä must have had the déjà vu feeling of losing the FIA European Top Fuel title in one of the last runs of the season. The Finnish championship leader was defeated in the semi-final by Duncan Micallef, and with a win over Micke Kågered in the second semi-final, Stig Neergaard would gain the 20 points he needed to clinch the 2016 FIA European Top Fuel title. But the Dane ran into problems, was defeated by the 2015 champion and so, to the big relief of the Finnish team, the 2016 FIA European Top Fuel title went to Mäkelä. Duncan Micallef made headlines with his stunning 3.89 second runs, and Kågered finished the season on a high with a European Finals win.    Continue reading

A blue Camaro will wear the number 1, but which blue Camaro?

The 2016 Pro Stock season has certainly been a close fought race as we come into the finals at Santa Pod. Rain has affected a couple of the races this year resulting in cancellation of eliminations in Alastaro and reduced qualifying in Hockenheim and the first Tierp round.  Points have been harder to come by for the main players. This has been the case across the board but we have still seen three winners before the finals.  Continue reading
