Liam Jones stormed to the number one qualifying position in Top Fuel with a new personal best of 3.98 seconds at the first day of qualifying for the European Finals, the sixth and final round of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship. In Pro Modified and Pro Stock championship leaders Michael Gullqvist and Jimmy Ålund lead the field, while in Top Methanol Dragster Timo Habermann was quickest at Santa Pod Raceway. Continue reading

The European Finals, the climax of a thrilling season

The 2016 FIA European Drag Racing Championship is reaching its climax with the European Finals at Santa Pod Raceway. Especially in Top Fuel and Pro Modified the sixth and last round of the season promises to be a thriller as the championship might be decided in the last run of the season. Also in Pro Stock the leader in the championship will have to race hard for his title. In Top Methanol Dragster the title race is almost decided, while in Top Methanol Funny Car Johnny Oksa was crowned at Tierp Arena in the penultimate round of the FIA European Championship. Completely different experiences than he had in the 2015 season when he attended races at Tierp only and failed to qualify for either race day, Bengt has taken the 2016 season in his grasp and attended all races, qualifying at everything to date. All of us at Speedgroup were shocked and greatly saddened to hear of the death of Swedish Super Street Bike rider Leif Larsson who was killed in an accident on his way back home from last weekend’s Scandinavian Internationals. Leif raced in Super Street Bike and also worked with the Karlsson’s Pro Stock Motorcycle operation, driving their truck to races.

Samu Kemppainen and Kalle Lyrén clinch the 2016 EDRS Pro Nordic MC titles with a win at Scandinavian Internationals

Samu Kemppainen (Super Twin Motorcycle) and Kalle Lyrén (Pro Stock Motorcycle) won the EDRS Pro Nordic Motorcycle Championship in their respective categories in style by winning the Scandinavian Internationals at Tierp Arena, the fourth and final round of the EDRS Pro Nordic MC. In Super Street Bike Björn Friström took the win, with Henri Kolehmainen as the 2016 EDRS Pro Nordic MC champion. In Top Fuel Motorcycle the final between Jan Sturla Hegre and Thomas Pettersson was not contested as rain brought an early end to the eliminations of the Scandinavian Internationals. Pettersson scored enough points to win the title.   Continue reading

Stig Neergaard, Johnny Oksa, Bengt Ljungdahl and Jonny Lagg win at Scandinavian Internationals in Sweden

Stig Neergaard raced to victory in Top Fuel at the Scandinavian Internationals, the fifth round of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship. The Dane defeated Anita Mäkelä in the final and is now 17 points behind the Finnish championship leader with only one race to go. In Top Methanol Funny Car Johnny Oksa took the championship in style with a dominant win. In Pro Stock there was double success for Bengt Ljungdahl as the Swede won the race and reset the European elapsed time record to 6.491 seconds. In Top Methanol Dragster Jonny Lagg won his home race at Tierp Arena, while in Pro Modified the final between Bruno Bader and Mats Eriksson couldn’t be contested as rain brought an early end to the eliminations of the Scandinavian Internationals. An even bigger surprise then Duncan Micallef’s 3.91 seconds in Friday’s Top Fuel qualifying, was today’s stunning 3.90 seconds from Stefan Gunnarsson. With his personal best the Swedish driver raced to the number one qualifying position. In Top Methanol Funny Car Johnny Oksa is the new leader after day two of the Scandinavian Internationals at Tierp Arena, while Jimmy Alund changed positions with Bengt Ljungdahl and will lead the Pro Stock field into tomorrows eliminations of round five of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship. In Pro Modified, Michael Gullqvist improved to 5.88 seconds and stayed in the lead. Continue reading

Jan Sturla Hegre raced to the number one qualifying position in Top Fuel Motorcycle at the final day of qualifying for the Scandinavian Internationals, the fourth and final round of the EDRS Pro Nordic Motorcycle Championship at Tierp Arena, Sweden. In Pro Stock Motorcycle Kalle Lyrén stunned with 6.98 seconds to stay in the number one qualifying position. In Super Twin Motorcycle and Super Street Bike, Friday leaders Samu Kemppainen and Richard Stubbins also stayed in the number one position and will lead their respective categories into tomorrow’s eliminations, but couldn’t improve on their Friday performances.
