Anita Mäkelä, Andreas Arthursson, Sandro Bellio and Jimmy Ålund leaders after the first day of qualifying at Tierp Arena
Anita Mäkelä raced to the provisional number one qualifying position in Top Fuel at the first day of qualifying for the Summit Racing Equipment Internationals, round five of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship at Tierp Arena in Sweden. In Top Methanol Sandro Bellio is the leader after day one, while Andreas Arthursson stormed to a stunning 5.83 seconds to take the lead in Pro Modified. In Pro Stock Jimmy Ålund claimed the provisional number one qualifying position.
The track and the weather conditions were good at Tierp Arena during the first day of qualifying for the Summit Racing Equipment Internationals.
In Top Fuel most of the teams had some problems during the first qualifying session and as the second session was in the evening on a colder track, most drivers couldn’t improve on their earlier performance. Anita Mäkelä had no problems at all and the Finnish championship leader stormed to a great 3.91 seconds in her first run to take the lead.
Timo Lehtimäki had the best run in the evening and is in second position with 4.28 seconds, with Hockenheim winner Liam Jones third. Antti Horto is fourth and reigning champion Duncan Micallef fifth.
The best run of the day was made by Andreas Arthursson. The Swede stormed to a stunning 5.83 seconds to claim the number one qualifying position in Pro Modified. In his turbo Chevelle Arthursson can reset the European record this weekend, as the winner of the Tierp event in June is really flying at the moment.
Roger Johansson surprised with a great 5.93 seconds personal best to claim the second position.
David Vegter is third with 5.997 seconds while Jan Ericsson is fourth and the last driver to qualify in the 5-second zone. Michel Tooren is sixth with 6.05 seconds. Championship leader Michael Gullqvist is only seventh and Jimmy Ålund has even more work to do as the number two in the title race is only in 16th position after two aborted runs.
Qualifying went much better for Ålund in Pro Stock, as the 10-time champion is the provisional leader after day one at Tierp with 6.60 seconds.
Bengt Ljungdahl, the reigning FIA European champion and championship leader, is in second position with 6.64 seconds, with Stefan Ernryd third.
In Top Methanol Sandro Bellio claimed the number one qualifying position with 5.54 seconds. Dennis Habermann is in second position while championship leader Timo Habermann is third.
