Duncan Micallef was the big surprise in Top Fuel at the first day of qualifying for the Scandinavian Internationals at Tierp Arena, as the Maltese driver stormed to a stunning 3.91 seconds in his first run of the 2016 season. In Top Methanol Funny Car Ari Pietilä is the number one qualifier with 5.74 seconds. In Pro Modified reigning champion Michael Gullqvist was the only driver to break the 6-second barrier and leads the field with two more qualifying sessions to go. Samu Kemppainen raced to the number one qualifying position in Super Twin Motorcycle at the first day of qualifying for the Scandinavian Internationals, the fourth and final round of the EDRS Pro Nordic Motorcycle Championship. In Pro Stock Motorcycle, Kalle Lyrén almost broke the 7-second barrier again at Tierp Arena and is the leader with 7.00 seconds, while in Top Fuel Motorcycle Thomas Pettersson and in Super Street Bike Richard Stubbins are the leaders at Tierp Arena with still two qualifying runs on Saturday to go. Pro-Stock comes back to Germany

After a break of two years the Pro Stock cars made a return to the Rico Anthes Quartermile in Hockenheim for the NitrOlympX.  As keen followers will recall, the track in 2014 could not hold the power of a Pro Stock car and all teams voted to quit the event after Q1.  No Pro Stock team attended the NitrOlympX in 2015, but they have returned after the track crew adopted a new plan for the preparation and management of the racing surface. It would seem that this new approach has worked as the times in both qualification and eliminations were representative of Pro Stock in full flight.  Continue reading

An excited Tommy Grimes heading for Europe

For the first time in his twenty years of racing, Tommy Grimes will make his debut on the European drag racing scene as he arrives at the Tierp Arena track for this weekend’s Scandinavian Internationals. Grimes is best known for riding the late Ray Price´s drag bikes during a ten year period with a lot of victories under his belt. Now he will enter the Super Twin Motorcycle category in the EDRS Pro Nordic Motorcycle Championship on Per Bengtsson’s famous parallel twin ‘The Beast’. Continue reading

Anita Mäkelä raced to victory in Top Fuel at the 31th Hockenheim NitrOlympX, round four of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship. The win was a double success for the Finnish racer as she is also the new leader in the championship. In Top Methanol Funny Car, championship leader Johnny Oksa extended his lead by defeating Ari Pietilä in an all Finnish final. In Pro Modified, Johan Lindberg defeated surprise finalist and Pro Mod rookie Marck Harteveld from the Netherlands to take his first win of the season. Timo Habermann gave the home crowd something to cheer about to win in Top Methanol Dragster, while Jimmy Alund raced to victory in Pro Stock at the Rico Anthes Quartermile of the Hockenheimring. In Top Methanol Funny Car Ari Pietilä surprised with a new personal best and is the number one qualifier. In Pro Modified reigning champion Michael Gullqvist was quickest and leads the field with two more qualifying sessions to go. Scandinavian Internationals, the EDRS Pro Nordic MC finals at Tierp Arena

The Scandinavian Internationals is the fourth and final round of the EDRS Pro Nordic Motorcycle Championship. Two and a half months after the championship kicked off at Tierp Arena, the EDRS Pro Nordic MC is back at the state-of-the-art drag race facility north of Stockholm. Samu Kemppainen (Super Twin Motorcycle), Kalle Lyrén (Pro Stock Motorcycle), Henri Kolehmainen (Super Street Bike) and Rikard Gustafsson (Top Fuel Motorcycle) enter the final round as the leader in their respective categories. Bianca Nilsson is the favourite to become the first EDRS Pro Nordic Super Comp Bike champion and you don’t have to be a fortune-teller to see that Janne Koskinen will be crowned as the champion in Super Gas Bike at the Scandinavian Internationals.
