EDRS Pro Nordic Motorcycle Championship kicks off at Tierp Arena
Only a few days to go and the EDRS Pro Nordic Motorcycle Championship kicks off with its traditional opener, the Tierp Internationals at Tierp Arena. Stability is what teams and promotors want and so the most prestigious motorcycle championship of Northern Europe once again counts six different categories and will be decided in four races. Tommy Grimes Jr., Thomas Lysebraate Olsen, Jan Sturla Hegre, Mogens Lund, Emil Östlund and Iiro Reinola are the 2017 champions and until a few weeks ago the great news was that they would all be back at Tierp to start their title defence. Unfortunately, The Beast Dragbike Team had to withdraw their entry as Grimes has to deal with some health issues and can’t come to Europe. The Main Event 2018 on track and from the pits
The 2018 FIA European Drag Racing Championship kicked off with The Main Event at Santa Pod Raceway. What a great season opener it was with four Top Fuelers in the 3.9 seconds, one Pro Modified car in the 5.8 seconds and another four in the 5.9 seconds several times. In Top Methanol and Pro Stock there were great elapsed times as well, plus a surprise winner in Top Fuel and a first time finalist in Pro Stock. It seems like we have a great season ahead of us. The new all concrete Santa Pod Raceway track was of course subject of many discussions and everybody had their own opinion about it. Even the track management openly declared that there were still many improvements to make. But the spectators got three days of drag racing they could only have dreamed of. Stig Neergaard from Denmark raced to victory by defeating Anita Mäkelä in the Top Fuel final at Santa Pod Raceway. Michael Gullqvist from Sweden had to defeat his countryman and multiple FIA European Pro Stock champion Jimmy Ålund to take the win in Pro Modified. The Top Methanol final was an all German Habermann affair as reigning champion Timo Habermann defeated his brother and number one qualifier Dennis Habermann. In Pro Stock last year’s runner up Stefan Ernryd took the win by defeating first time finalist Robin Norén at The Main Event, season-opening race of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship. Antti Horto (Top Fuel), Dennis Habermann (Top Methanol), Michael Gullqvist (Pro Modified) and Bengt Ljungdahl (Pro Stock) claimed the number one qualifying positions at The Main Event at Santa Pod Raceway and will lead their respective categories into Monday’s eliminations at the opening round of the 2018 FIA European Drag Racing Championship. Antti Horto raced to the number one qualifying position in Top Fuel at the first day of qualifying for The Main Event, the first race of the 2018 FIA European Drag Racing Championship. In Pro Modified reigning champion Michael Gullqvist stormed to a stunning 5.86 seconds to take the lead after two qualifying runs. In Pro Stock and Top Methanol Bengt Ljungdahl and Dennis Habermann are the provisional leaders after day one. Continue reading
Good number of participants in Summit Racing Super Series at Gardermoen
Spring Nats at Gardermoen started up the 2018 drag racing-season in Norway. A great event that offered some 13 qualification rounds before eliminations. The track was excellent, for some maybe a bit too good, but in all everyone was very satisfied with the very good track.
The EDRS Members Memorial at Malmö Raceway offered a fantastic race weekend
The sun was shining over the Malmö dragstrip as well this weekend. About 80 teams had gathered at Malmö Raceway to fight for points in the Summit Racing EDRS Series and to get to the Super Series finals at Tierp Arena later this year. Stefan Jansson took that place for Super Pro ET and Richard Falkenberg snatched the one for Pro ET.
A sunny Spring Nats at Tallhed is completed
Spring Nats, Orsa, was more like a Summer Nats. Lovely sunny weather, happy racers and a great track crew that made a superb race weekend. Maybe some racers were a bit rusty as it was one of the first races of the season but now everything will get even better.
