Drag Challenge Grand Opening at Gardermoen plagued by rain

‘It’s raining again’ from Supertramp would have been more suitable for the Drag Challenge Grand Opening then AC/DC’s ‘Thunderstruck’ that came from the Gardermoen Raceway sound system almost every four hours. Rain brings end to Drag Challenge at Gardermoen after round one of eliminations

Rain brought an early end to the eliminations of the Drag Challenge Grand Opening, round three of the EDRS Pro Nordic Motorcycle Championship at the new Gardermoen Raceway. After the first round of eliminations, the rain that already badly affected the Friday and Saturday qualifying was back and after some short delays earlier on the Sunday, the race director had to cancel the Drag Challenge at 4 PM. Samu Kemppainen raced to the number one qualifying position in Super Twin Motorcycle at the second day of qualifying for the Drag Challenge Grand Opening, round three of the EDRS Pro Nordic Motorcycle Championship at Gardermoen Raceway, Norway. In Pro Stock Motorcycle, Top Fuel Motorcycle and Super Street Bike the leaders after Friday qualifying stayed in the number one position and so Kalle Lyrén, Rikard Gustafsson and Henri Kolehmainen will enter eliminations as the number one qualifier in their respective categories. Vesa Lipponen raced to the number one qualifying position in Super Twin Motorcycle at the first day of qualifying for the Drag Challenge Grand Opening at Gardermoen Raceway, round three of the EDRS Pro Nordic Motorcycle Championship. In Pro Stock Motorcycle Kalle Lyrén was quickest, while in Top Fuel Motorcycle Rikard Gustafsson and in Super Street Bike Henri Kolehmainen are the leaders in Norway with still one qualifying day to go. Great qualifying for EDRS Pro Nordic MC round two at Alastaro, but eliminations rained out

After two days of great qualifying with a stunning 6.98 seconds for Kalle Lyrén in Pro Stock Motorcycle and a Finnish top three in Super Twin Motorcycle led by Samu Kemppainen with 6.62 seconds, everybody was looking forward to an action packed elimination day. But the thus far perfect Finnish weather had other plans and so, after the first round of Super Street Bike, a thunderstorm and rain showers brought an early end to the eliminations of the FHRA Nitro Nationals, round two of the EDRS Pro Nordic Motorcycle Championship.  Continue reading

Surprising Alastaro eliminations cut short by rain

After an interesting qualifying and surprising first round of eliminations, the Top Fuel semi-finals of the FHRA Nitro Nationals promised to be even more exiting. The reigning champion Micke Kågered was out of competition and the numbers one and two in the championship, Stig Neergaard and Anita Mäkelä, had to face each other for a place in the final. But mother nature had other ideas and a thunderstorm and rain showers brought an early end to the third round of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship at Alastaro, Finland.  Continue reading

Rain prevents pursuers from catching up with a red lighting leader

Michael Gullqvist out with a red light in the first round of eliminations and his five main pursuers all winning and advancing to the quarter finals! The best possible scenario to catch up with the leader in the championship. But the reigning FIA European Pro Modified champion was saved by the thunderstorm and rain and as the eliminations had to be cancelled, the rest of the pack could only make up at most twenty points.  Continue reading
