Sandro Bellio’s first FIA title, a real family effort
In what was only his third season as the driver of the Danny’s Racing Team Funny Car, Sandro Bellio claimed his first FIA European Top Methanol Championship in 2019. As the whole operation is run by the family, this title was for all a family effort and a reward for many years of hard work. Last but not least, Bellio’s title was also the first FIA European Championship in drag racing for a driver from Belgium. Continue reading

Odd years are Jan Sturla Hegre’s lucky championship numbers
Jan Sturla Hegre claimed the 2015 EDRS Pro Nordic Top Fuel Motorcycle Championship and he repeated that in 2017, so it could barely be a surprise that the Uggerud Bros. rider claimed his third title in 2019. This season the title fight with Thomas Pettersson went down to the wire as Hegre had to win the final run of the season at Tierp Arena to claim the title with a 6-point advantage over the 2018 champion. Hegre did what he had to do, and although it was close all season, the third title for the Norwegian rider was a fact. Continue reading

Kenneth Holmberg claims his first EDRS Pro Stock Motorcycle title
Kenneth Holmberg has finished in the top five of the EDRS Pro Nordic Pro Stock Motorcycle Championship several times, but the title and the number one plate were still missing on his list of honours. In 2019 that gap was filled with his first EDRS Pro Stock Motorcycle title, and as the championship winning bike was sold a few weeks ago, it was also the last one for the familiar bright orange Swecomposite combination. But as Holmberg doesn’t have the intention to quit, you never know with what kind of bike and in which category the champion will return. Continue reading
Jan Ericsson had to defeat multiple champions to claim his first FIA title
Jan Ericsson fired a warning shot at the end of the 2018 season with runner-up finishes at Hockenheim and Santa Pod and a third place in the FIA European Pro Modified Championship, only 11 points short of the number two position. Although not the clear favourite, it could barely be a surprise that Ericsson entered the fray for the 2019 title from the very first moment. As the season progressed, Ericsson became ‘the man to beat’ and as nobody was able to do that in the final race of the season, Ericsson claimed his first and well deserved FIA European Pro Modified Championship. Veronica Olderin is the latest and more than welcome asset to the FIA European Top Fuel ranks. The name of this Swedish racer will not immediately ring a bell for most of the European drag racing followers, but for the fans of powerboat racing, that will be totally different. Olderin won several titles and the 2015 World Championship in the 3B category of powerboat racing, and if Olderin and her team have their way, the drag racing world will soon know her as well.
