Jimmy Ålund crowns fulltime Pro Stock comeback with 11th category title

After two seasons taking part in only a few Pro Stock races a year, Jimmy Ålund was back for a full season in 2019 in the category he loves the most. And his opponents knew it, as Ålund immediately claimed the title, his 11th FIA European Pro Stock Championship, and a Pro Modified title included, his 12th in total! The Summit Racing Camaro driver won three races and finished as the runner-up two times to claim the title with a 155-point advantage over Robin Norén. As the icing on the cake of a great 2019 season, Ålund, European Pro Stock speed record holder since 2015, also claimed the European Pro Stock ET record back. Continue reading

Anita Mäkelä defends her Top Fuel title in great style

As the reigning champion, Anita Mäkelä was challenged several times this season. But with four race wins, one runner-up position, numerous 3-second runs and only losing two elimination runs out of six events, Mäkelä claimed her second consecutive FIA European Top Fuel title and her fourth in total. The Tommi & Anita Top Fuel Racing dragster will bear that number 1 with pride again in 2020 and the team will do everything they can to repel all the attacks of the up-and-coming competition. Sandro Bellio’s first FIA title, a real family effort

In what was only his third season as the driver of the Danny’s Racing Team Funny Car, Sandro Bellio claimed his first FIA European Top Methanol Championship in 2019. As the whole operation is run by the family, this title was for all a family effort and a reward for many years of hard work. Jan Ericsson had to defeat multiple champions to claim his first FIA title

Jan Ericsson fired a warning shot at the end of the 2018 season with runner-up finishes at Hockenheim and Santa Pod and a third place in the FIA European Pro Modified Championship, only 11 points short of the number two position. Although not the clear favourite, it could barely be a surprise that Ericsson entered the fray for the 2019 title from the very first moment. As the season progressed, Ericsson became ‘the man to beat’ and as nobody was able to do that in the final race of the season, Ericsson claimed his first and well deserved FIA European Pro Modified Championship.  Continue reading

Veronica Olderin, from powerboat star to Top Fuel rookie

Veronica Olderin is the latest and more than welcome asset to the FIA European Top Fuel ranks. The name of this Swedish racer will not immediately ring a bell for most of the European drag racing followers, but for the fans of powerboat racing, that will be totally different. Olderin won several titles and the 2015 World Championship in the 3B category of powerboat racing, and if Olderin and her team have their way, the drag racing world will soon know her as well. Marck Harteveld and Voodoo Hemi Racing join the 2020 FIA tour

In a great ‘end of the season party’, Voodoo Hemi Racing thanked their sponsors and partners and celebrated Marck Harteveld’s 2019 Motorsport UK Pro Modified championship last Saturday evening, October 12th. But the team didn’t only look back at last season, Harteveld also announced that Voodoo Hemi Racing will focus on the FIA European Pro Modified Championship next year and will join the full 2020 FIA tour. Drag Racing Europe AB announces the 2020 FIA European Drag Racing Championship calendar

The calendar for the 2020 FIA European Drag Racing Championship has today, October 4th, been ratified by the FIA World Motor Sport Council and will be campaigned with the following rounds.

*Round 1 – ‘Main Event’ (Santa Pod Raceway) – UK  May 22nd / 25th

*Round 2 – ‘Tierp Internationals’ (Tierp Arena) – Sweden 4th / 7th June

*Round 3 –  ‘Summit Internationals’ (Tierp Arena) – Sweden 13th / 16th August

*Round 4 – ‘Nitro OlympX’ (Hockenheimring) – Germany 28th/ 30th August

*Round 5 – European Finals’ (Santa Pod Raceway) – UK 10th/ 13th September.

There will be five (5) rounds in 2020. The FHRA has decided to not hold the round in Finland in 2020.  “We have decided to not host a FIA Drag Racing Championship round in Finland for 2020. In 2019, the move to the new track in Kauhava took a lot of efforts and we need some time to make sure we can be a successful part of the FIA championship again in 2021. This will give us the opportunity to improve the Kauhava facilities to better meet the needs of the European Championships. We look forward to getting back to calendar on 2021”, said FHRA’s Chairman Lasse Koskinen

The board of Drag Racing Europe AB (DRE) will continue to communicate with the FHRA to look towards the future and a return of Finland to the FIA European Drag Racing Championship.

Anita Mäkelä, Jan Ericsson, Sandro Bellio and Jimmy Ålund clinch the 2019 FIA European Drag Racing Championship titles at Santa Pod

Anita Mäkelä (Top Fuel), Sandro Bellio (Top Methanol), Jan Ericsson (Pro Modified) and Jimmy Ålund (Pro Stock) claimed the 2019 FIA European Drag Racing Championship titles in their respective category at the European Finals at Santa Pod Raceway. Mäkelä and Ericsson won their titles in style by claiming the victory in the final round of the 2019 FIA European Drag Racing Championship as well. Bellio and Ålund also advanced to the final, but in Top Methanol and Pro Stock the win was claimed by Monty Bugeja and Robin Norén respectively. Continue reading

Maja Udtian, Sandro Bellio and Jimmy Ålund number one qualifiers at European Finals

Maja Udtian (Top Fuel), Sandro Bellio (Top Methanol) and Jimmy Ålund (Pro Modified and Pro Stock) claimed the number one qualifying positions at the  European Finals at Santa Pod Raceway in England and will lead their respective categories into Sunday’s eliminations at the sixth and final round of the 2019 FIA European Drag Racing Championship. With her 3.806 seconds Udtian also reset her own European Top Fuel elapsed time record from two weeks ago at Tierp. Continue reading

Anita Mäkelä, Jan Ericsson, Sandro Bellio and Jimmy Ålund leaders after the first day of qualifying for the European Finals

Anita Mäkelä raced to the provisional number one qualifying position in Top Fuel at the first day of qualifying for the European Finals, the sixth and final round of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship at Santa Pod Raceway in England. In Top Methanol Sandro Bellio is the leader after day one, while Jan Ericsson stormed to a great 5.823 seconds to take the lead in Pro Modified. In Pro Stock Jimmy Ålund claimed the provisional number one qualifying position. Continue reading
