noren_r_person

No thoughtless steps for Robin Norén, but a careful planning had to lead to the young Swedish driver’s ultimate goal, Pro Stock. After his first starts in Super Comp, he won  the title in this 8.9-second index class in 2013. Competition Eliminator was his next step up the ladder, with a runner-up finish in the 2015 championship as a result. But now it’s time for the 24-year old Norén to make his dreams come true and step up to Pro Stock in 2016 with a Pontiac GTO.  Continue reading

Class Review FIA European Finals – Pro Stock Car, The winner takes it all?

Class Review FIA European Finals  –  Pro Stock Car, The winner takes it all?

Venue: Santa Pod, England
Dates: September 3rd – 6th 2015

The winner takes it all?
Every season plays out like a story for teams and classes.  In some cases it is a tale of domination and supremacy from one team inflicting crushing defeat on the others.  In most cases it is a tale of a hard fought battle between two or more teams to see who can gain the advantage.  Pro Stock season 2015 has definitely been the latter.  After a rain affected race in the first Sweden round, and then round one defeats in Alastaro and Tierp 2, Jimmy Ålund entered the contest at Santa Pod with a 46 point deficit to Thomas Lindström.  To compound matters further, engine damage suffered in Q4 at Tierp meant Jimmy had to fly his spare engine in from the USA, where he currently sits fifteenth in the NHRA Mello Yello championship.  The motor arrived to Santa Pod early in the week and Jimmy arrived on Wednesday to fit it into his race car.  Jimmy knew he was going to need all the horsepower KB Racing could give him to retain his number one plate in Europe.  The only way he could do this would be to qualify first in every round and take the event win, whilst hoping that Lindström hit some problems or got taken before the final. Class Review FIA Scandinavian Internationals – Pro Stock Car – All change at the top

Class Review FIA Scandinavian Internationals  –  Pro Stock Car

Venue: Tierp Arena, Sweden
Dates: Aug 20-23rd 2015

All change at the top

Short introduction:
Any close observer to European Pro Stock racing would have expected Jimmy Ålund to arrive at Tierp Arena with all guns blazing.  Tierp after all is where Jimmy set the current European Speed and ET records.  The Blue Camaro has run NHRA type speed and ET at this track before, and one would have expected it to do so again.  The weather in Sweden has been relatively poor for most of the 2015 summer, but the forecast for the event was hot and sunny, the track was in top condition and ticket sales were at record levels.  Everything pointed towards a quick and fast qualification perhaps even quicker and faster than the previous record, also set at Tierp, of a 7.8 bump spot.  Ten cars would compete for the eight car ladder and the quality of the field promised excellence in every session.  Continue reading

The Pro Stock Championship heats up at Alastaro

Hannu Kalliomäki and Magnus Petersson

After record breaking performances at the first two rounds of the season, even the most cautious would have been tempted to put money on Jimmy Ålund in Finland, but if you had taken that bet, you would have lost. Not only did the nine time European champion qualify in an uncharacteristically low fourth place, he was eliminated in round one.  When Pro Stock turns cruel, it turns really cruel.    The rest of the top four in the championship suffered mixed fortunes, Michael Malmgren was also eliminated in round one, whilst Thomas Lindström went out in the semis. Magnus Petersson made it to another final, but the glory of the weekend went to Richard “Nixxon” Sundblom who won at his home track in his first event of the year.  Continue reading

Venue: Santa Pod Raceway, UK
Dates: May 22-25th 2015

Ålund re-writes the records

The 2015 Pro Stock championships certainly started with a bang at the opening round in England.  On a good track and with near ideal atmospheric conditions, The Pro Stock cars could really show what they were capable of.  They did not disappoint! Personal Best laps, European speed and ET records, close racing, mighty burn outs and a great pit atmosphere made for a really happy event.  Not even the rain on Sunday morning managed to spoil any of our race event.  Jimmy even managed to race with a damaged back, and Thomas worked around some mechanical issues the team discovered on Friday.  Altogether, the opening round at the Santa Pod Main Event was brilliant and memorable.

Pro Stock Car – Preview Main Event

Jimmy Ålund

Jimmy Ålund is coming to Santa Pod as the racer with both the number one plate and the most recent full race experience.  Jimmy raced the first six races of the NHRA season in a KB Racing entry.  No Wally this year for Jimmy, but the lessons he has learned in the biggest Pro-Stock fields in the world will certainly be valuable.  No news regarding additional sponsorship for Jimmy, but We understand that Exclusive Cars along with Klintberg and Way remain as title sponsors.  Jimmy’s only aim will be to keep the number one plate, and only an event win at every round will guarantee that.
