The FIA European Drag Racing Championship kicks off with The Main Event
Only a few days to go and the 2022 FIA European Drag Racing Championship kicks off with The Main Event at Santa Pod Raceway. After the coronavirus caused a 2-year break, it’s finally time to get back to action for the most prestigious drag racing championship in Europe. Anita Mäkelä (Top Fuel), Sandro Bellio (Top Methanol), Jimmy Ålund (Pro Stock) and Jan Ericsson (Pro Modified) were the 2019, and due to the break still defending champions. Who will there be at the season opening round in England and who are the favourites? Will there be some new stars coming up, or will the more familiar names shine again?

With the start of the 2022 FIA European Drag Racing Championship not far off, several teams from this championship took the opportunity to test their updated cars at the Festival of Power, the first round of the British drag racing championship at Santa Pod Raceway. And it was a major success as all three cars of the Rune Fjeld Motorsport stable made several promising runs, with the 3.837 seconds of Ida Zetterström as the highlight. Michel Tooren raised his confidence for the coming season as what was planned to be a test weekend ended with a victory in the first round of the Motorsport UK Pro Modified Championship.

She came to complete her licensing runs, saw the finish line in a superb 3.862 seconds and conquered the Euro Finals Shootout Top Fuel trophy by winning the final over Susanne Callin. In her first full pass Ida Zetterström stormed into the top four of the quickest Top Fuel drivers in Europe, a top four dominated by women. Those who are chasing the 2022 FIA European Top Fuel Championship title know that they have a new force to be reckoned with.

The weather was not with the racers at Tierp Arena on Sunday. With the quarter finals of Pro Modified and Pro Stock, and semi-finals of Top Methanol completed, it started to rain. With more rain to come in the next couple of hours, the race director was left no other choice than to cancel the remainder of the Summit Racing Scandinavian Nationals.
