Game, set, match and championship for Anita Mäkelä
There is no one who knows better than Anita Mäkelä that past performance is no guarantee for future results. After claiming her second FIA European Top Fuel title in 2016, the 2017 season was filled with early exits, mechanical problems and the number five spot in the championship. But in 2018 the Finnish fan favourite and her team bounced back in an extremely dominant way by claiming the title with three race wins, one runner-up spot, two semi-final finishes and a 131-point advantage in the final points standing. Resetting the European ET record in the penultimate and final race of the season added the icing on the cake for the champion. Continue reading

Top Fuel licenced Dennis Nilsson eager to start a 2018 campaign
Dennis Nilsson didn’t make headlines with his final licencing run. No wonder, as the Swede had to do it on a cloudy and rainy Sunday, one week after the European Finals and without the die-hard drag race fans in the Santa Pod grandstands. But one attempt was enough and with 4.32 seconds at 272.11 mph Nilsson had his Top Fuel licence in his pocket. As the car is waiting in the workshop, the planning for a 2018 FIA European Top Fuel Championship campaign can really take off.

The Maltese Lion continues to roar
Duncan Micallef impressed with a 3.91-second run in his first race of the 2016 season and even improved on that performance two weeks later at Santa Pod’s European Finals with 3.896 seconds at 312 mph. Thanks to these achievements, Micallef won the title Sportsman of the Year in Malta a few weeks ago, and the Rune Fjeld Motorsport driver stayed on a high by recording 4.03 seconds at 303 mph last weekend at his home track Hal Far Raceway, resetting both Maltese national records. But the Maltese Lion is still not satisfied, as he now plans a full attack on the FIA European Top Fuel title. Continue reading

Anita Mäkelä clinches the title in a semi-final Top Fuel thriller
For almost ten minutes Anita Mäkelä must have had the déjà vu feeling of losing the FIA European Top Fuel title in one of the last runs of the season. The Finnish championship leader was defeated in the semi-final by Duncan Micallef, and with a win over Micke Kågered in the second semi-final, Stig Neergaard would gain the 20 points he needed to clinch the 2016 FIA European Top Fuel title. But the Dane ran into problems, was defeated by the 2015 champion and so, to the big relief of the Finnish team, the 2016 FIA European Top Fuel title went to Mäkelä. Duncan Micallef made headlines with his stunning 3.89 second runs, and Kågered finished the season on a high with a European Finals win. Continue reading
