Stig Neergaard raced to the number one qualifying position in Top Fuel at the first day of qualifying for the FHRA Nitro Nationals, round three of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship at Alastaro, Finland. In Pro Modified reigning champion Michael Gullqvist was quickest in both runs and leads the field with two more qualifying sessions to go. In Pro Stock Bengt Ljungdahl surprised favourite Jimmy Ǻlund and is the number one qualifier, while in Top Methanol Funny Car local hero Johnny Oksa leads the field after day one.  Continue reading

FIA European Drag Racing Championship to Finland for round three

After England and Sweden, it’s time for Finland to welcome the FIA European Drag Racing Championship for round three of their title race. The FHRA Nitro Nationals at the Alastaro Circuit is always a special race and the only time the numerous Finnish fans can see the 8.500 bhp Top Fuelers live in action. After their win at Tierp Arena, Anita Mäkelä (Top Fuel) and Johnny Oksa (Top Methanol Funny Car) enter their home race as the provisional leaders in their respective championships. But competition will be tough to make it two in a row and increase that lead. Anita Mäkelä defeats Birgitte Bremnes in first-ever all-female FIA Top Fuel final

Anita Mäkelä raced to victory at the Tierp Internationals in a historic race as it was the first-ever all-female Top Fuel final in the history of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship. Mäkelä defeated Birgitte Bremnes, and as the Finnish racer was the only driver to record 3.9-second runs at Tierp Arena, she deserved the win at the track where Mäkelä already made history last year with her European record runs.  Continue reading

Michael Gullqvist is fast at the right moment and claims victory at Tierp

Michael Gullqvist once again proved at the Tierp Internationals that you don’t have to be the quickest all weekend to win a race. The reigning FIA European Pro Modified champion was the number ten qualifier, but stepped up in eliminations to run 5.9 seconds when he needed to most, and beat Mats Eriksson in the final to take the lead in the championship. But there were other drivers who impressed at Tierp Arena too, such as Åke Persson with 5.88 seconds and David Vegter with two 6.00-second runs.     Continue reading

Rain ends a reign in Pro Stock at Tierp

For the second round of European Pro Stock at Tierp, ten cars would compete for the eight car ladder and the quality of the field promised excellence in every session.  The weather had other ideas though, and heavy rain managed to put a stop to most of the racing on Friday and all of the racing on Saturday.  Continue reading

Personal bests and semi-final finish for Vegter Pro Mod Racing at Tierp Arena

Vegter Pro Mod Racing can look back at a very successful Tierp Internationals, the second round of the 2016 FIA European Drag Racing Championship. At Tierp Arena, David Vegter reset his personal best ET and top speed twice, advanced to the semi-finals, and the Vegter Pro Mod Racing ’67 Camaro was the third fastest combination of the field. Vegter was close to breaking into the 5-second zone in the semi-final with 6.002 seconds. “We are extremely happy with our performance in Sweden, and the way the Camaro runs now,” said the Dutch Pro Modified driver about the Swedish race.  Continue reading

Chris Polidano maximizes at Tierp Internationals

With two entrants, there were not too many points to collect in Top Methanol Dragster at the Tierp Internationals. But Chris Polidano made the best of it and couldn’t have done any better, earning the bonus points for being quickest in every qualifying session, ending up as the number one qualifier, and winning the final. Johnny Oksa takes his first ever FIA Top Methanol Funny Car win in style

Johnny Oksa had already come close a few times, but at the Tierp Internationals nobody could stop the Finn from winning his first ever FIA European Championship Top Methanol Funny Car race. Oksa did it in style with a number one qualifying position and low ET of the meeting. That he didn’t meet any competition in eliminations, was not his fault, as all his opponents ran into problems, while the Finn stayed out of trouble.  Continue reading

Anita Mäkelä wins first-ever all-female FIA Top Fuel final at Tierp Internationals

Anita Mäkelä from Finland raced to victory by defeating Birgitte Bremnes from Norway in the first-ever all-female Top Fuel final in the history of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship. Mäkelä was the only driver to record 3.9-second runs in the semi-final and final at the Tierp Internationals. Reigning champion Micke Gullqvist was the winner in Pro Modified while Magnus Petersson defeated Bengt Ljungdahl in the Pro Stock final. Chris Polidano from Malta and Johnny Oksa from Finland were winners in Top Methanol Dragster and Top Methanol Funny Car in the second round of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship at Tierp Arena, Sweden.  Continue reading
