Three Finns and a Greek rule in Kauhava
With three winners from Finland, the home crowd had plenty to cheer about after the eliminations for the FHRA Nitro Nationals, round two of the EDRS Pro Nordic Motorcycle Championship. At the brand new drag racing facility at Kauhava, Harri Piensalmi claimed the victory in Super Twin Motorcycle, while in Pro Stock Motorcycle Fredrik Fredlund defeated Janne Koskinen in an all Finnish final. In Super Street Bike there was an all Finnish final as well, with Vesa Ruhanen defeating Ida Zetterström. In Top Fuel Motorcycle Filippos Papafilippou from Greece claimed the victory, and just like Ruhanen, it was his second consecutive win of the 2019 EDRS Pro Nordic MC. Continue reading
FHRA Nitro Nationals full of surprises
The FHRA Nitro Nationals, round three of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship, were full of drama and in the end had at least three surprise winners. In Top Fuel Timo Lehtimäki raced to victory, and although the Finn was last year’s winner as well, it was once again an upset win as he was the number eight qualifier. In Pro Modified Peter Kunc was the surprise winner after defeating Andreas Arthursson in the final, while Simon Gustafsson stunned with a win in the final over reigning champion Bengt Ljungdahl in Pro Stock. For Kunc and Gustafsson is was their first win in an FIA European Championship race. Top Methanol had less of a surprise winner in Sandro Bellio, although the Santa Pod winner didn’t see himself as a favourite at all after a far from trouble free qualifying. Continue reading
Filippos Papafilippou, Harri Piensalmi, Fredrik Fredlund and Vesa Ruhanen winners at EDRS Pro Nordic MC round 2 in Kauhava
Filippos Papafilippou raced to victory in Top Fuel Motorcycle at the second round of the EDRS Pro Nordic Motorcycle Championship at the new Kauhava drag racing facility in Finland. It was the second consecutive EDRS Pro Nordic MC win for the rider from Greece. In all other categories riders from Finland gave the home crowd a lot to cheer about as all three classes had a winner from Finland. In Super Twin Motorcycle Harri Piensalmi won when reigning champion Marcus Christiansen suffered mechanical problems in the final, in Pro Stock Motorcycle Fredrik Fredlund defeated Janne Koskinen, while in Super Street Bike Vesa Ruhanen claimed his second consecutive win of the season after beating Ida Zetterström in the second all Finnish final of the day. Timo Lehtimäki gave the Finnish home crowd something to cheer about by winning the Top Fuel final of the FHRA Nitro Nationals, round three of the 2019 FIA European Drag Racing Championship at the new Kauhava drag racing facility in Finland. Lehtimäki, also winner of last year’s FHRA Nitro Nationals, defeated Maja Udtian from Norway in the final. In Top Methanol Sandro Bellio had a bye run in the final to take his second win of the season. In Pro Modified Peter Kunc was the surprise winner over Andreas Arthursson in the final, while in Pro Stock there was maybe an even bigger surprise when Simon Gustafsson defeated reigning champion Bengt Ljungdahl in the final. Rikard Gustafsson, Marcus Christiansen, Fredrik Fredlund and Vesa Ruhanen leaders after Friday qualifying at Kauhava
Rikard Gustafsson stormed to a stunning 5.83 seconds to claim the number one qualifying position in Top Fuel Motorcycle at the first day of qualifying for the FHRA Nitro Nationals, the second round of the EDRS Pro Nordic Motorcycle Championship at the brand new drag racing facility in Kauhava, Finland. In Super Twin Motorcycle Marcus Christiansen claimed the provisional number one qualifying position with a great 6.42 seconds. Pro Stock Motorcycle and Super Street Bike both have a Finnish number one qualifier so far. In Pro Stock Motorcycle it is Fredrik Fredlund with 7.09 seconds and in Super Street Bike Vesa Ruhanen with 7.08 seconds. Continue reading
