DRE and FIM Europe sign agreement

Drag Racing Europe AB, – “DRE”, and FIM Europe have signed an agreement for the promotion of the 2022 FIM Europe Drag Bike European Championship. The agreement is the result of discussions between FIM Europe and the DRE management group formed by Keith Bartlett, Michael Gullqvist and Roger Lyrén. The intention is to run FIM Europe Drag Bike European Championship in a combined calendar with the FIA European Drag Racing Championship for cars.

At its meeting on 15th December the World Motor Sport Council of the FIA approved the six round 2022 FIA European Drag Racing Championship calendar:
26th-29th May, Great Britain, (Santa Pod Raceway)
16th-19th June, Sweden (Tierp Arena)
29th june-2nd July, Finland (Kauhava)
11th-14th August , Sweden (Tierp Arena)
26-28 August, Germany (HockenheimRing)
8th-11th September, Great Britain ( Santa Pod Raceway)

She came to complete her licensing runs, saw the finish line in a superb 3.862 seconds and conquered the Euro Finals Shootout Top Fuel trophy by winning the final over Susanne Callin. In her first full pass Ida Zetterström stormed into the top four of the quickest Top Fuel drivers in Europe, a top four dominated by women. Those who are chasing the 2022 FIA European Top Fuel Championship title know that they have a new force to be reckoned with.

At Tierp Arena and Santa Pod Raceway David Vegter once again proved that he is a force to be reckoned with. The Dutchman and his new coloured Vegter Pro Mod Racing ’67 Chevrolet Camaro recorded quick elapsed times at both tracks. At Santa Pod’s Euro Finals Shootout Vegter claimed the number one qualifying position with 5.87 seconds, to advance to the final with 5.86 and 5.85 second elapsed times. In the final the Dutch driver was in the lead when the flexplate broke and he had to sit by and watch Bruno Bader pass him and take the win. Scoring a runner-up position and looking at the numbers, Vegter once again proved to be one of the frontrunners of the European Pro Modified category.

We were very sorry to hear of the serious injuries of Hans-Olav Olstad after a bad high-speed accident after an engine explosion at Gardermoen Raceway last weekend. The Norwegian Super Twin racer was flown to the hospital with injuries to his face, chest and a lung.

The weather was not with the racers at Tierp Arena on Sunday. With the quarter finals of Pro Modified and Pro Stock, and semi-finals of Top Methanol completed, it started to rain. With more rain to come in the next couple of hours, the race director was left no other choice than to cancel the remainder of the Summit Racing Scandinavian Nationals.

The weather was not with the racers of the EDRS Pro Nordic Motorcycle Championship at Tierp Arena on Sunday. With only one round of eliminations in Super Twin Motorcycle and Super Street Bike completed, and Pro Stock Motorcycle in the line-up, it started to rain. With more rain to come in the next couple of hours, the race director was left no other choice than to cancel the remainder of the Summit Racing Scandinavian Nationals, the final round of the EDRS Pro Nordic Motorcycle Championship.

After another great day of qualifying Jan Ericsson (Pro Modified), Jonny Lagg (Top Methanol) and Jimmy Ålund (Pro Stock) claimed the number one qualifying positions at the Summit Racing Scandinavian Nationals at Tierp Arena and will lead their respective categories into Sunday’s eliminations. Although not a race for the FIA European Drag Racing Championship, the 25 teams from the three FIA classes will do everything they can in tomorrow’s eliminations to take the trophy with them back home.
