Leif Andreasson extends his lead with a win

Leif Andreasson

The victory in the 2015 NitrOlympX will not be on top of the long list of races Leif Andreasson already won in his Top Methanol Funny Car career. With only two entries and some problems for Jürgen Nagel, it was not one of the most hard-fought wins for the multiple FIA European Champion. But to win, you have to be at, and finish the race. With his victory Andreasson extended his lead in the championship and is now 96 points away from reigning champion Johan Lindberg.

The 30th NitrOlympX was the fourth round of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship. Although the Rico Anthes Quartermile was brought into perfect condition by the Santa Pod track crew, temperatures exceeding 39 degrees made impressive ETs almost impossible at Hockenheim. Top Methanol Funny Car had only two entries after the cancellation of reigning FIA European champion Johan Lindberg. And so Leif Andreasson and Jürgen Nagel had to fight for the 2015 NitrOlympX TMFC trophy and the points for the European championship.

Qualifying

Qualifying was run over three sessions, as the second run on Friday had to be cancelled after a massive oil down in one of the other classes. With 5.92 seconds Leif Andreasson already set the pace in his first run and although the Swede came close to that time in run number three (5.94 seconds), the first one stayed the best. For Jürgen Nagel the second run at his home track was the best, but with 6.07 seconds he couldn’t come very close to the number one position.

Eliminations

Final

With only two competitors there was only a final in Top Methanol Funny Car, and so Andreasson and Nagel had to wait until late Sunday afternoon to make their only elimination pass. Andreasson was away first and as Nagel lost traction almost immediately after the start, it was loud and clear that Andreasson would take the win. With 5.89 seconds Andreasson had his best run of the weekend in the final and could pick up the biggest TMFC trophy.
