Hot first day at the FIM-E NitrOlympX with more to come tomorrow

Friday at the NitrOlympX, Hockenheimring, Germany is always a question of easing into the event on the annual visit to the woefully underused Rico Anthes Quartermile. The first qualifying session was something that can largely be overlooked, with a lot of track hiccups, oildowns and delays although the second session was a slight improvement, but the track itself really was baking under the sun. Unfortunately, tomorrow (Saturday) looks to be even hotter, but it is what it is and there is a fair amount at stake in qualifying ahead of Sunday’s eliminations.

Jndia Erbacher, Sandro Bellio, Jimmy Ålund and Stian Rusånes leaders after the first day of qualifying for the NitrOlympX

Jndia Erbacher raced to the provisional number one qualifying position in Top Fuel at the first day of qualifying for the NitrOlympX, the fourth round of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship at the Rico Anthes Quartermile of the HockenheimRing, Germany. In Top Methanol Sandro Bellio is the leader after two runs, while Stian Rusånes is the surprise leader in Pro Modified. In Pro Stock it was business as usual with Jimmy Ålund in the number one qualifying spot. With a driver from Switzerland, Belgium, Sweden and Norway in the lead, it’s a real European Championship.

Going for gold at the NitrOlympX in Hockenheim

No time to rest for the teams of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship. Hardly recovered from the exciting races at Tierp Arena, it’s time for the famous NitrOlympX at the Rico Anthes Quartermile of the HockenheimRing. Duncan Micallef (Top Fuel), Jonny Lagg (Top Methanol), David Vegter (Pro Modified) and Jimmy Ålund (Pro Stock) are the current leaders, but one thing is for sure and that is that nothing is sure looking at the different winners so far this season. Interesting ingredients for another exciting round of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship.

Hegre, Christiansen, Morrison Jnr and Lymant take the Summit marbles

Despite a couple of showers to interpret the schedule, the full set of FIM-E eliminations was completed at the Summit Racing Equipment Internationals at Tierp Arena just north of Stockholm, Sweden. The knockout phase produced some surprises, some superb racing and some movement in the points as the European championship heads into its home stretch over the next month with two events remaining.
