Speedy’s use up some luck but are heading to a solution
Mid-season modifications almost caught out Marcus Christiansen and father Claus (Speedy) at the Summit Racing Equipment Internationals in Sweden, but they managed to emerge with their win streak (extending back to 2022) in FIM-E Super Twin Bike intact. Marcus provides the following update and look ahead.
“In Tierp everything looked very promising with the new pump, and we ran a 6.13 in the opening qualifying round (straight out of the trailer), but as the event went on, we realised we had problems with idle pressure with the new pump. Our idle bypass system simply could not bypass the amount of fuel that the new pump supplied. We took a long time to realise that we could not fix it on track. Even though it looked really good from the outside with 4 solid qualifying rounds, the problems began to show in our clutch setup, and we broke clutch parts and a primary belt on Sunday. We won the event by a miracle with our opponents doing worse than us or broke on line – not really the way we want to win races but a win is a win and it looks very good for our championship hopes.
Over the last few days we have tested and built a new idle bypass fuel system. Initial tests show that this new setup will solve our problems and we will be going strong in Hockenheim, and we have serviced the bike and rebuilt all the broken parts. We are back in shape and ready for the next three back-to-back races: Hockenheim for the NitrOlympX, Mosten Raceday [single lane eighth mile sprint in Denmark], and Euro Finals at Santa Pod. If everything works out we are definitely going for that (6.09) record, and we are more motivated than ever.”
The rest of the Super Twin field may have missed their shot at taking the Danes down this season, but the next three weeks could be special for the son and father duo as they look for a fifth title (and the naturally aspirated World mark).
23rd – 25th August, NitrOlympX, Hockenheimring, Germany
29th – 1st September, Mosten Raceday, Arhus, Denmark
5th – 8th September, European Finals, Santa Pod Raceway, England
