Ida Zetterström, Sandro Bellio and Nick Davies leaders after the first day of qualifying for The Main Event at Santa Pod Raceway
Ida Zetterström raced to the number one qualifying position in Top Fuel at the first day of qualifying for The Main Event, the first race of the 2022 FIA European Drag Racing Championship. The Top Fuel rookie recorded 4.14 seconds in her first run of the day. In Pro Modified local hero Nick Davies surprised with a great 5.921 seconds to take the lead. In Top Methanol reigning champion Sandro Bellio stormed to a great 5.54 seconds and is the provisional leader after day one.
It was a difficult day for many teams after the 2-year break. Many drivers had to abort their runs or suffered some problems. But still, in Pro Modified and Top Methanol there were some great runs on the first day of qualifying for The Main Event, the opening round of the 2022 FIA European Drag Racing Championship.
In Top Fuel Ida Zetterström from Åland, Finland, suffered severe engine problems in her first run of the day. But still the RF Motorsport driver managed to cross the finish line in 4.14 seconds, good enough to claim the number one qualifying position.
Susanne Callin, from Sweden, had some engine problems as well and with 4.38 seconds the Slick Tricks Racing driver finished qualifying in second position.
Antti Horto, from Finland, is the provisional number three qualifier after two runs with 4.75 seconds.
In Pro Modified Nick Davies surprised with a great 5.921 seconds and is the number one qualifier after day one.
In his second run of the day Andy Robinson just missed the number one position with a great 5.922 seconds.
As Kev Slyfield is the number three qualifier with 5.941 seconds, the top three in Pro Modified is all British. The three home favourites were also the only three drivers to run in the 5.9 seconds.
First non-British driver is Michel Tooren from The Netherlands as the Pro Dutch Racing driver claimed the number four position with 6.04 seconds. Reigning FIA European champion Jan Ericsson had problems, is in 15th position after day one and has some work to do tomorrow.
In Top Methanol reigning champion Sandro Bellio stormed to a great 5.544 seconds to claim the provisional number one qualifying position. Linn Fløysvik had some mechanical issues and will start qualifying tomorrow.
Qualifying for The Main Event continues Saturday morning.
