Vesa Lipponen, Kalle Lyrén, Rikard Gustafsson and Henri Kolehmainen leaders after Friday qualifying at Gardermoen
Vesa Lipponen raced to the number one qualifying position in Super Twin Motorcycle at the first day of qualifying for the Drag Challenge Grand Opening at Gardermoen Raceway, round three of the EDRS Pro Nordic Motorcycle Championship. In Pro Stock Motorcycle Kalle Lyrén was quickest, while in Top Fuel Motorcycle Rikard Gustafsson and in Super Street Bike Henri Kolehmainen are the leaders in Norway with still one qualifying day to go.
Not for the first time this year, qualifying was badly affected by the weather. After a long rain delay, the EDRS Pro Nordic Motorcycle Championship riders could start their qualifying at almost 7 PM. The Friday programme at the new Gardermoen Raceway also had to be rescheduled to only one qualifying session.
In Super Twin Motorcycle Vesa Lipponen from Finland impressed with a great 6.85 seconds, with Hans Olav Olstad (7.13 seconds) and Vidar Ravnsborg (7.65 seconds), both from Norway, in second and third position. The reigning EDRS Pro Nordic MC Super Twin Motorcycle champion Samu Kemppainen had the best elapsed time, but was disqualified as the Finn crossed the centre line at the top end.
In Pro Stock Motorcycle Kalle Lyrén once again is number one qualifier after the first day at Gardermoen. The Swedish Veidec Lyrén Motorsports rider recorded 7.14 seconds. Timo Savolainen from Finland is second with 7.33 seconds and Thomas Olsen from Norway is third.
In Top Fuel Motorcycle Rikard Gustafsson stormed to a great 6.17 seconds and is the leader after one run, with Per Wärn in second position and Sverre Dahl in third.
In Super Street Bike EDRS Pro Nordic MC championship leader Henri Kolehmainen leads the field. The Finn recorded 7.42 seconds. Anders Blanck is second (7.56 seconds) and Vesa Ruhanen is third (7.72 seconds).
Favourite Alex Hope from England had some problems and is 13th and last qualifier. But with two and maybe three rounds to go on Saturday, everything can change.
In Super Comp Bike Emil Őstlund is the leader, with Tomas Jonsson in second position. In Super Gas Bike Tore Hanzal is the leader after day one, with championship leader Janne Koskinen in second position.
Qualifying for the Drag Challenge Grand Opening continues Saturday August 6.
