Santa Pod Raceway welcomes the FIA European Championship grand finale

The FIA European Drag Racing Championship reaches its climax with the European Finals at Santa Pod Raceway, the traditional grand finale of the season. In three categories the championship still has to be decided and especially in Pro Modified, where the numbers one and two, Michael Gullqvist and Jan Ericsson, are separated by only four points, the title fight may last until the final run of the season. In Top Fuel Anita Mäkelä is the favourite to retain her title, while in Top Methanol Sandro Bellio might become the first Belgian driver to win an FIA European title in drag racing. In Pro Stock Jimmy Ålund claimed the title in the penultimate race of the season at Tierp Arena, but in this category the fight for the second position is still open. All in all great prospects for a spectacular grand finale. Continue reading

For the drivers and teams not only a tight schedule, but in seven days the positions of the current leaders Anita Mäkelä (Top Fuel), Sandro Bellio (Top Methanol), Jimmy Ålund (Pro Stock) and Jan Ericsson (Pro Modified) can change dramatically. Will they be able to strengthen their positions in Germany and Sweden, or will the fight become even closer? Continue reading

Inaugural FIA European Drag Racing Championship race at Kauhava

After two excellent races at Santa Pod Raceway and Tierp Arena, it’s already time for race number three of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship, the FHRA Nitro Nationals at the brand new racetrack in Kauhava, Finland. In Top Fuel Anita Mäkelä won the first two races of the season, while Jimmy Ålund took both victories in Pro Stock, and so these two drivers have a reasonable margin to the numbers two in their respective categories. Jonny Lagg and Jan Ericsson travel to Finland as the leaders in Top Methanol and Pro Modified, but in these two categories the pursuers are not far behind. Continue reading

The FIA European Drag Racing Championship kicks off in high gear with The Main Event

Only a few days to go and the 2019 FIA European Drag Racing Championship kicks off with The Main Event at Santa Pod Raceway. It’s a flying start of the season as with only a one weekend break, Tierp Arena in Sweden is the second stop on the tour. Anita Mäkelä (Top Fuel), Bengt Ljungdahl (Pro Stock) and Jimmy Ålund (Pro Modified) will all defend their 2018 titles. Only Top Methanol will definitely have a new champion as Dennis Habermann will skip the first half of the 2019 season. One thing is for sure, it will be a tough and close fight as in all categories the competitors have invested in new parts to challenge the reigning champions. Continue reading

Santa Pod Raceway ready for FIA European Championship grand finale

Barely recovered from the record setting fifth round of the title race in Sweden, the 2018 FIA European Drag Racing Championship goes down to the wire with the European Finals at Santa Pod Raceway. In three categories at least two drivers can still claim the title, so the sixth and final race of the season is one to look forward to. In Top Fuel Anita Mäkelä extended her lead over Antti Horto with a win at Tierp Arena. In Pro Stock Bengt Ljungdahl is the leader, but Stefan Ernryd is in striking distance. Jimmy Ålund is the 2018 FIA European Pro Modified champion after the Swede ousted Michael Gullqvist from the first position with a runner-up finish at Tierp and the 2017 champion decided to withdraw his entry from the Euro Finals. In Top Methanol Timo and Dennis Habermann are separated by only 15 points and so the title race might be decided in the final run of the year. Continue reading

FIA European Drag Racing Championship part two kicks off in high gear with Hockenheim and Tierp

The 2018 FIA European Drag Racing Championship is at the halfway point of the season and after the summer break part two kicks off in high gear with in back-to-back weekends the NitrOlympX at Hockenheim in Germany and the Summit Racing Equipment Internationals at Tierp Arena in Sweden. After a long winter, drivers, teams and fans are looking forward to the start of the new season where everybody has to start from zero again.
