Åby Motor Club’s drag racing market – a great meeting place for dragracers

A new date did not prevent visitors from coming to the traditional Åby Motor Club’s drag racing market, which this year was in the middle of the town Åby, outside Norrköping. Bargains can be made here and there were many things that changed owners this past weekend.

Between 600–700 people showed up, even though the market was a few months late. Åby Motor Club arranges this event every year, but it use to be in February. It was a couple of years ago last time due to known reasons. But finally, it was time and in a new place for this year. Since Åby, just north of Norrköping, is the hometown for the club the market moved in at Åby’s Arena, which felt very homely. And it is close to the clubhouse, where everyone was invited to a barbecue. The exhibitors were somewhat smaller in number this year, as the arena is a bit smaller than the former halls use to be. But a good selection of various racing parts and other stuff were available.

Speedgroup have, for many years now, been on site to show seasonplans and have a chatt with our racers. This year it was Lena Perés turn to be on site together with Chairman Michael Gullquist.

It is mostly used parts that changes owners here, but ME Racing’s presented a novelty that is a new addition to ME Racing’s range. Multi-jig can be adapted to whatever chassis project you want to build and then you can rebuild it to suit the next project. Motorcycle, Top Fuel or whatever you want to do, here are all possibilities. The jig is also made of Swedish high-strength steel from SSAB.

Of course, we also had our long-time friendly partner Auto Verdi with us. Stefan Verdi and his company have for long been a contingent partner to Speedgroup. He also try to hang on when we exhibit. Åby Motor Club’s drag racing market has become a favorite for him.

A disappointing message reached us on Saturday. The FIA event at Tierp Arena in June has been cancelled. However, there is an intention to conduct a Summit Racing EDRS Series event. But the final decision will come in a day or two.

Anyhow, it is soon time to start the season and it starts in Orsa on Tallhed Dragway 14-15 May. Then next up is Spring Nats Gardermoen Norway 20-22 May and Vårgårda Nationals 9 27-29 May.  Time to roll!!
