Anita Mäkelä, Jonny Lagg and Jimmy Ålund leaders after the first day of qualifying for the NitrOlympX

Anita Mäkelä raced to the provisional number one qualifying position in Top Fuel at the first day of qualifying for the NitrOlympX, round four of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship at the Rico Anthes Quartermile of the Hockenheimring. In Top Methanol Jonny Lagg is the leader after day one, while Jimmy Ålund  was quickest in both Pro Modified and Pro Stock as well.

The Rico Anthes Quartermile of the Hockenheimring once again proved its great quality at the first day of qualifying for the NitrOlympX. In all four categories of the FIA European Championship great elapsed times were recorded and the crowd enjoyed some excellent racing.

In Top Fuel Anita Mäkelä, the reigning champion and current leader in the championship, stormed to a great 3.894 seconds in the first run of the day.

But in the second qualifying session Maja Udtian improved to 3.882 seconds to take over the number one spot. In the same session Mäkelä bounced back with an even better 3.879 seconds to finish day one in the number one position. Udtian, also the number two in the championship, remained second.

Her RF Motorsport team mate Liam Jones was the third driver with a 3-second pass and last year’s Hockenheim winner claimed the third position with 3.92 seconds. Jndia Erbacher made it an almost ladies top three, but the daughter of multiple champion Urs Erbacher is the provisional number four with 4.06 seconds. Mikael Kågered is fifth, Stig Neergaard sixth and Urs Erbacher, who made one run today, is seventh.

In Top Methanol Jonny Lagg, from Sweden, stormed to a stunning 5.27 seconds to claim the number one qualifying position.

Sandro Bellio, the number one in the championship, was not far behind, while Dennis and Timo Haberman finished the first day of qualifying in third and fourth position.

In Pro Modified there were no fewer than four driver with a 5-second elapsed time. David Vegter once again proved his great form of this season and stormed to 5.92 seconds in the first run of the day.

In the second run reigning champion Jimmy Ålund improved to a stunning 5.87 seconds to take over the number one qualifying position. Vegter remained second, while Jan Ericsson, the current leader in the championship, claimed the number three position with 5.93 seconds.

Andreas Arthursson is fourth with 5.942 seconds, while Marck Harteveld once again surprised with 6.00 seconds and is the number five qualifier in the 17-car field.

Jimmy Ålund claimed the number one qualifying position in Pro Stock as well. The 10-time FIA European Pro Stock champion recorded a great 6.59 seconds, and that was enough for the provisional number one position.

Bengt Ljungdahl is second with 6.60 seconds and Robin Norén, last year’s NitrOlympX winner, third with 6.68 seconds. Michael Malmgren, the number two in the championship, is in fourth position.

Qualifying for the NitrOlympX, round four of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship continues Saturday with two more runs.
