Super Street Team Törnqvist expands
Team Törnqvist is expanding their racing effort with a bike this season.
Super Street racers Åke Törnqvist job as a farmer in the small town Hedemora in the middle of Sweden, is during drag race season changed to a life going to racetracks around the country. Last season Åke ended up as number three in the EDRS series and is now preparing for the upcoming season.
– Actually, I´m not doing anything else then small updates and normal service at the car, he says.
The big change for this season is that he will add one more racer. It´s Åkes stepdaughter, Anna Rosander, who now want to try if she can handle more horsepower than she normally works with.
-Up to now she has been more in to horses than drag racing, says Ã…ke. But now she wanted to give drag racing a try. So, we bought a Yamaha TZR 125 cc for her. Its easier to bring a bike than another car, and it´s easier to work with and not too hard to handle at the track. So that´s how we will start. After this season, we will evaluate her first year and see whatever she wants to do.
Åke have been pretty successful in previous years. In 2014, he ended up as Runner up in Svealand´s Cup, and in EDRS Series in 2015 same spot. Now it´s time for a new season.
-I just started up the Camaro and it sounded just fine, he says. The plan is to go to Orsa Dragway on the 20th of May. Anna will do her first license runs at the Yamaha there. Then the season is on. I´m planning to do the whole Summit Racing EDRS Series this year.
But as a small start of the season the team took the Camaro for a ride, at the trailer, last weekend showing it at the Hot Rod Show in Borlange. And at the question we gave Anna, if she was looking forward to the season, the answer was a clear Yes!
Åkes Camaro is a 1992 with a 383 cu.in. small block, Power Glide and a Dana 60 rear axle.
-I bought it race ready here in Sweden, Åke tells. It has been used in Super Stock so it is just ready to move it to that class with out to much work, if I decide to do so. The fun thing is that the Camaro still carries the rear and passenger seat and even the working radio.
We are looking forward to seeing Åke and Anna at the race strips this summer and wish them best of luck.
