American dream comes true for Kalle Lyrén

As the 2014 EDRS Pro Nordic MC Pro Stock Motorcycle champion, Kalle Lyrén expected to have a fair chance to go for a second consecutive title. But 2015 was not his season, and after engine problems at Alastaro, the Veidec rider had to give up his championship dreams. But now, long after the European season is over, the biggest dream of the young Swedish rider is about to come true, as he will travel to the States to take part in the last two races of the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series in Las Vegas and Pomona.

After the disappointment in Alastaro, things went much better for Kalle Lyrén with semi-final finishes at Gardermoen and Tierp. In the last race at Tierp Arena, the Veidec Lyrén Motorsport rider was really getting back to form, as he went back to consistent 7.0 second runs. Close behind Elvira Karlsson, the 2014 EDRS Pro Nordic MC Pro Stock Motorcycle champion ended fourth in the championship.

“Our 2015 Nordic season was not the best of seasons, especially not the engine problems we had in Finland. That made it impossible for us to get points enough to have any chance on the championship title. We also have been struggling to get back to our base settings we found in Tierp 2014”, Lyrén said, looking back at his European season.

But still, Lyrén aims to end the season on a high. “We have been having a dream for a long time to go to the USA and compete in some races over there, just to learn more and get more riding and tuning experience. We were supposed to go last year, but since I got a daughter on her way, it was not possible. We got a chance this year to get some space and transportation with another NHRA team, and we took the opportunity this time and decided to go and race the last two races in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, Las Vegas and Pomona. We know we are far from being enough competitive to have a chance there, but we see this as a very good learning experience, and a dream to be there and race together with the best riders in the world. The bike is shipped to Vance&Hines in Indianapolis to get some service before we go to Las Vegas. Unfortunately we don’t have any chance to test before Vegas, but we will hopefully have a chance to test on Monday after the race, to get some more rounds and be ready for the finals in Pomona. We will have a small team in Las Vegas with only me, Roger, Pål and Atle. The rest of the team and family will come to the race in Pomona. We are really looking forward to getting this opportunity to learn more about the bike and tuning, and also see the competition over there. Hopefully we will have access to internet and you can follow our trip in the USA on our facebook page www.facebook.com/veidecracing.”

The race at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway is October 29 – November 1, with the Pomona race on November 12 – 15.
