Christiansen, Lymant and King win, but rain defeats the rest of the FIM-E Main Event
To complete a frustrating meeting, rain eventually won much of eliminations day with a series of downpours disrupting and ultimately curtailing the opening round of this year’s FIM-E championship. This also included a shift to eighth mile running after the first set of eliminations due to problems drying the shutdown area, and then a final set of the wet stuff ended proceedings with only three classes completed.
Marcus Christiansen took a single in the final of FIM-E Super Twin as scheduled opponent Chris Van Nimmen was unable to make the call. The Danish Speedy’s Racing rider managed to run a 6.226/220.09 in the first round of eliminations and a 4.489 in the final over the eighth.
FIM-E Pro Stock Bike saw Jorg Lymant take his first FIM-E event trophy when Bertrand Maurice’s Suzuki stumbled off the line in the final. Lymant’s S&S Buell powered the German to a 4.4983/155.62 over the eighth and takes an early championship lead into the next round in Sweden in three week’s time.
The FIM-E Junior Dragbike Cup riders are more familiar with the eighth mile distance, so the shortening of the track made no difference to the field. Unruffled by a rapid turnaround between the semi and final round of eliminations, Hollie King nailed a 8.3622 on a 8.34 dial to defeat Leah Morrison reversing last year’s top two finishers in the points. The Juniors now take the bulk of the summer off before returning to European action in Germany in August.
The un-run finals in the remaining two classes would have featured an all Swedish match-up in FIM-E Top Fuel Bike, where Rikard Gustafsson (who set low ET of the meet with a 6.006/249.59 over the quarter in the opening round of eliminations) was due to face off with Thomas Petterson, and an all British affair in FIM-E Super Street Bike (Jake Mechaell and Chris Reed being the finalists in what was an eventful weekend for the class).
