Anita Mäkelä, Jan Ericsson, Linn Engan Fløysvik and Jimmy Ålund leaders after the first day of qualifying at Tierp Arena
Anita Mäkelä raced to the provisional number one qualifying position in Top Fuel at the first day of qualifying for the Summit Racing Equipment Internationals, round five of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship at Tierp Arena in Sweden. In Top Methanol there is also a female driver the leader after day one, as Linn Engan Fløysvik claimed the provisional number one position. Jan Ericsson stormed to the lead in Pro Modified, while in Pro Stock Jimmy Ålund claimed the provisional number one qualifying position.
Because of a long rain break, it was after 8 PM when racing was finished at the once again excellent prepared Tierp Arena track at the first day of qualifying for the Summit Racing Equipment Internationals.
In Top Fuel it was once again reigning champion and championship leader Anita Mäkelä who stormed to the lead in her first run of the day. The Finnish driver recorded a great 3.91 seconds and she was the only driver to break the 4-second barrier on Friday.
Stig Neergaard, from Denmark surprised with the number two position with 4.03 seconds, while Jndia Erbacher was the second female driver in the top three with 4.07 seconds.
Maja Udtian, the number two in the championship, was on her way to a great elapsed time when the 21-year-old driver from Norway suffered some mechanical problems in the last part of the run. Udtian finished qualifying in fourth position (4.09 seconds), with Tethys fifth and Michael Kågered sixth.
There is also a female driver in the number one qualifying position in Top Methanol. Linn Engan Fløysvik, from Norway, stormed to a great 5.61 second to claim the provisional number one position in her Funny Car.
Jonny Lagg recorded the second quickest elapsed time, with championship leader Sandro Bellio in third position.
Mikael Larsson is fourth and the two Finnish drivers Johnny Oksa and Ari Pietilä fifth and sixth.
In Pro Modified championship leader Jan Ericsson is the number one qualifier. The Swede stormed to a great 5.85 seconds, with multiple champion Michael Gullqvist in second position with 5.88 seconds.
Roger Johansson surprised with the number three position, and the Swede is the first driver with a 6-second run with 6.02 seconds. Michael Joneskog is fourth with 6.02 seconds as well and Jere Rantaniemi fifth with 6.03 seconds. Several drivers from the top six in the championship like Andreas Arthursson, David Vegter Jimmy Ålund and Mats Eriksson have some work to do on day two, as they are in 7th, 17th, 18th and 21st position respectively.
In Pro Stock championship leader Jimmy Ålund is once again the leader after day one. The 10-time FIA European Pro Stock champion stormed to a great 6.55 seconds to claim the number one position.
Reigning champion Bengt Ljungdahl is second (6.60 seconds) and Robin Norén third with 6.65 seconds. Michael Malmgren, the number two in the championship, is in fourth position, with Sampsa Palos from Finland fifth.
Qualifying for the Summit Racing Equipment Internationals, round five of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship continues Saturday.
