The Dane defeated Anita M\u00e4kel\u00e4 in the final and is now 17 points behind the Finnish championship leader with only one race to go. In Top Methanol Funny Car Johnny Oksa took the championship in style with a dominant win. In Pro Stock there was double success for Bengt Ljungdahl as the Swede won the race and reset the European elapsed time record to 6.491 seconds. In Top Methanol Dragster Jonny Lagg won his home race at Tierp Arena, while in Pro Modified the final between Bruno Bader and Mats Eriksson couldn\u2019t be contested as rain brought an early end to the eliminations of the Scandinavian Internationals.<\/strong><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Tierp Arena hosted the fifth and penultimate round of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship. The state-of-the-art facility north of Stockholm once again proved its quality as at the Scandinavian Internationals many personal bests were reset and in Pro Stock even a European elapsed time record was reset.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3004\" style=\"width: 550px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dragracingeurope.eu\/fiaedc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/08\/topfuelfinal_si_el.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3004\" class=\"wp-image-7547 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.dragracingeurope.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/topfuelfinal_si_el.jpg\" alt=\"topfuelfinal_si_el\" width=\"540\" height=\"244\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dragracingeurope.eu\/fiaedc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/08\/topfuelfinal_si_el.jpg 540w, https:\/\/www.dragracingeurope.eu\/fiaedc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/08\/topfuelfinal_si_el-300x136.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3004\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The final<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In Top Fuel, Anita M\u00e4kel\u00e4 defeated reigning FIA European champion Michael K\u00e5gered in the quarter final, and with 3.98 seconds M\u00e4kel\u00e4 once again broke the 4-second barrier. In the semi-final, surprising number two qualifier Duncan Micallef was the next victim of the Finnish championship leader, and in 4.09 seconds M\u00e4kel\u00e4 advanced to the final. In the final M\u00e4kel\u00e4 had to face Stig Neergaard. The number four qualifier defeated Liam Jones in the quarter final. The Dane suffered serious traction problems in the semi-final, but had a lucky escape as number one qualifier Stefan Gunnarsson pulled a red light. But even more impressive were the elapsed times number two qualifier Bengt Ljungdahl recorded. In his first round win over Sampsa Palos, Ljungdahl reset the European Pro Stock elapsed time record to 6.491 seconds. That opened the door for some other drivers to close the gap to the Swedish reigning champion. The Dutchman recorded a 5.96 seconds in the first round. In a bye run Bader advanced to the final. There he had to face Mats Eriksson. In the championship, Gullqvist is still in the lead, but Bader is only eight points short of the leader.
