It would seem that this new approach has worked as the times in both qualification and eliminations were representative of Pro Stock in full flight.\u00a0<\/strong><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Thomas Lindstr\u00f6m did not attend this race event.\u00a0 Thomas and Nina are expecting a child due over the same time period as the European Finals, therefore Thomas has reluctantly conceded that he will not be able to fully defend his number one plate and therefore did not enter.\u00a0 Jimmy \u00c5lund leads the championship from Bengt Ljungdahl as the teams enter Hockenheim.\u00a0 Magnus Petersson sits in fourth place whilst an uncharacteristically poor year to date for Michael Malmgren sees him down in fifth spot.\u00a0 The only other driver contesting the full championship is Stefan Ernryd who sits in sixth place as the NitrOlympX begin.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2930\" style=\"width: 550px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a id=\"caption-attachment-2930\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bengt Ljungdahl<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Bengt Ljungdahl has never raced a Pro Stock car at Hockenheim, and therefore has no preconceptions of the track.\u00a0 This could be an advantage to Bengt, especially if the other teams recall the problems of previous years and decide to play safe.\u00a0 Bengt has a fast car and is pressurizing Jimmy all id=\"caption-attachment-2931\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bengt Ljungdahl<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Qualifications:<br \/>\n<\/strong>Q1 saw the power of Bengt\u2019s car evident from the beginning.\u00a0 Posting a 6.67 lap to take the number one spot.\u00a0 Jimmy was not far behind at 6.68, whilst Michael sat in third spot at 6.81 ahead of Simon on 6.82.\u00a0 Fifth was Stefan whilst problems for Magnus saw him take the last qualifying spot.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2935\" style=\"width: 550px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a id=\"caption-attachment-2935\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jimmy \u00c5lund<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In Q2 Jimmy took the number one place away from Bengt despite the latter\u2019s improved time.\u00a0 The only other time posted by any racer quicker than their Q1 lap was Stefan, but not by enough to improve his qualifying position.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2937\" style=\"width: 550px\" class=\"wp-caption id=\"caption-attachment-2937\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Stefan Ernryd<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Rain all day on Saturday cancelled all further attempts at qualification and so the teams went straight into id=\"caption-attachment-2928\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Michael Malmgren<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Eliminations<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nMichael made a great start and held the lead all the way in his race against Simon.\u00a0 Bengt was handed the race by the autobulb system as Stefan was deemed to have taken too long to stage.\u00a0 Undeterred Bengt went on to a 6.52 lap, the quickest lap of the weekend and within a couple of hundredths of Jimmy\u2019s European record.\u00a0 The \u201cother\u201d blue Camaro showing its power and class again.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2929\" id=\"caption-attachment-2929\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Magnus Petersson<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In the final pair, Magnus did everything he could starting with a clear holeshot and then running his best lap of the weekend, but it was not enough to get round Jimmy who reeled him in and passed him to take the win by just 0.03 seconds, not bad when you consider that he gifted Magnus over a tenth on the id=\"caption-attachment-2926\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The semi-final<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In Round 2 Jimmy got the bye run as number one qualifier whilst the other final position was fought out between Michael and Bengt.\u00a0 Michael apparently suffering some issues on this run although the cause is unknown to me.\u00a0 Bengt took the win and tried to take the lane choice but Jimmy\u2019s 6.569 just pipped Bengt\u2019s 6.57.\u00a0 So it would be an all Blue Camaro final.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2938\" style=\"width: 550px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a id=\"caption-attachment-2938\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Pro Stock final<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The final was a demonstration of hard charging Pro Stock racing.\u00a0 Both drivers clocking 6.57 second times, with Bengt actually the quicker of the two by 5 thousandths, however the race was won on the tree as Jimmy got away first by a few hundredths.\u00a0 Jimmy \u00c5lund took the big trophy home and consolidates his lead in the championship, but it is not a done deal by far.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dragracingeurope.eu\/fiaedc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/08\/DSC_4091.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7398\" src=\"http:\/\/www.dragracingeurope.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/DSC_4091.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_4091\" width=\"540\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dragracingeurope.eu\/fiaedc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/08\/DSC_4091.jpg 540w, https:\/\/www.dragracingeurope.eu\/fiaedc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/08\/DSC_4091-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Brief conclusion\/ looking ahead towards next event<br \/>\n<\/strong>Jimmy may have all the experience and the racecraft, but Bengt has the car and the set up and knows how to use it.\u00a0 With Thomas attending Tierp it is possible that he may yet be a key player in the final run to the end of the season.\u00a0 The final at Hockenheim showed that Bengt can run close with Jimmy and it was only a matter of hundredths on the tree that decided this race.\u00a0 Jimmy is not getting it all his own way.\u00a0 Magnus and Michael need good results in Tierp to get properly into the fight for the top places, With a couple of decent results Stefan can move up the ladder as well, so the championship is tight and difficult all the way through.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Low ET of the event: <\/strong>Bengt Ljungdahl
