Top Methanol Funny Car – Main Event Preview

Leif Andreasson

It looked like there would only be three Top Methanol Funny Cars at the opening round at Santa Pod, but a late entry from Leif Andreasson from Sweden was a welcome addition. Last years runner up in the championship plans to go the full FIA tour of six event. Andreasson expresses that he has a lot of respect for the Lindberg Bros and what they have achieved in the US and Europe.  Leif stresses that first over the finish line is what will count. And it will be no easy game for any of the competitors.. Continue reading

Werner Habermann Racing is back for an almost full tour and wants to win a championship. Brothers Timo and Dennis Habermann plan to run five of the six FIA Championship races. “We will not go to the Tierp race in August. We will run the same cars, with the same crew and the same sponsors, but we can always use some more. We want to win the championship and are looking to run in the 5.1 seconds”, Timo says. Top Fuel Dragster – Main Event Preview

Micke Kågered

A fresh new start for Top Fuel this season. After the European Finals, multiple championship winning team Andersen Racing announced their retirement from the sport, and almost at the same time, their driver Thomas Nataas announced a break for at least one year. Then of course there were the problems with the disqualification of Nataas, weeks after the Euro Finals and a total review of the championship points another few weeks later. Then suddenly Micke Kågered was the 2014 FIA European Top Fuel champion. It was not the way the Swede wanted to win the title, so this season the Bahco driver wants to win his second Top Fuel crown at the track by going rounds and winning races. The professional Kågered team will start their title defence at the Main Event. Without Andersen Racing the title fight is pretty open and it’s hard to mention a number one favorite. Pro Stock Car – Preview Main Event

Jimmy Ålund

Jimmy Ålund is coming to Santa Pod as the racer with both the number one plate and the most recent full race experience.  Jimmy raced the first six races of the NHRA season in a KB Racing entry.  No Wally this year for Jimmy, but the lessons he has learned in the biggest Pro-Stock fields in the world will certainly be valuable.  No news regarding additional sponsorship for Jimmy, but We understand that Exclusive Cars along with Klintberg and Way remain as title sponsors.  Jimmy’s only aim will be to keep the number one plate, and only an event win at every round will guarantee that. Vegter Pro Mod Racing ready to rumble

A lot of work has been done the last few months at Vegter Pro Mod Racing. And as the first testruns made clear, the team did a great job. Good reasons for David Vegter and his team to look forward to next week’s Bank Holiday weekend when the lights turn green for the Main Event at Santa Pod Raceway, the first round of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship.  Continue reading

No Main Event for Pro Dutch Racing

It’s very frustrating as the team did everything in their power, but Pro Dutch Racing has to withdraw from the Main Event as the brand new ’71 Plymouth Barracuda will not be in Europe in time.  After a six weeks delay in the harbor, the Cuda is finally on its way, but now a tropical storm causes an extra four days delay and the car will be in Antwerp, Belgium, May 23, exactly the day the Pro Mods will have their first round of qualifying at Santa Pod.  Continue reading

The light turns green again, a new season starts with The Main Event

Only one week to go and the FIA European Drag Racing Championship 2015 kicks off with The Main Event at Santa Pod Raceway. After a long winter, drivers, teams and fans are looking forward to the start of the new season. New cars, new drivers, new colours and six exiting races to go. Only in Top Methanol Dragster will the title not be defended as Chris Polidano will skip this season, but although not all of them will start their season at Santa Pod, Micke Kågered, Johan Lindberg, Mattias Wulcan and Jimmy Alund will try to win a second consecutive FIA European title. But one thing is for sure, competition will be tough.
