SFI Foundation re-certification in The Netherlands
The 2017 European SFI re-certification tour kicked off today in Heemskerk, The Netherlands. Racers and team members from at least four different countries travelled to the Dutch Hot Rod Association headquarters in Heemskerk, located less than 30 minutes from Schiphol Airport, to re-certify wheels, bell housings, clutches and flywheel shields, to be race ready for the fast approaching 2017 season. For the third time this year a Top Fuel driver from the FIA European Championship was honoured by a National Sport Federation for their achievements in the 2016 season. A great honour and a recognition for the sport of drag racing. After Anita Mäkelä was nominated for (Finnish) Super Star of 2016, and Stig Neergaard honoured as Motorsport Profile of the Year, Duncan Micallef won the prestigious title of Sportsman of the Year in Malta. After an unfortunate period half way through the 2016 season, Michael Gullqvist took the FIA European Pro Modified Championship in style by dominating the European Finals and retaining his title. With five FIA European Pro Modified Championship titles in the last six years, Gullqvist is the man to beat in the ultimate doorslammer category of drag racing. Jonny Lagg is waiting a new challenge to win a second consecutive title
Jonny Lagg is the 2016 FIA European Top Methanol Dragster champion, and at least for a while, the Swede will be the last one. Starting this season, Top Methanol Dragster and Top Methanol Funny Car will race in one category, and to win another championship, Lagg will not only have to beat his Dragster companions, but also their full bodied counterparts.
