Stig Neergaard, Michael Gullqvist, Timo Habermann and Stefan Ernryd winners at season-opening The Main Event at Santa Pod Raceway

Stig Neergaard from Denmark raced to victory by defeating Anita Mäkelä in the Top Fuel final at Santa Pod Raceway. Michael Gullqvist from Sweden had to defeat his countryman and multiple FIA European Pro Stock champion Jimmy Ålund to take the win in Pro Modified. The Top Methanol final was an all German Habermann affair as reigning champion Timo Habermann defeated his brother and number one qualifier Dennis Habermann. In Pro Stock last year’s runner up Stefan Ernryd took the win by defeating first time finalist Robin Norén at The Main Event, season-opening race of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship. Antti Horto (Top Fuel), Dennis Habermann (Top Methanol), Michael Gullqvist (Pro Modified) and Bengt Ljungdahl (Pro Stock) claimed the number one qualifying positions at The Main Event at Santa Pod Raceway and will lead their respective categories into Monday’s eliminations at the opening round of the 2018 FIA European Drag Racing Championship. Antti Horto raced to the number one qualifying position in Top Fuel at the first day of qualifying for The Main Event, the first race of the 2018 FIA European Drag Racing Championship. In Pro Modified reigning champion Michael Gullqvist stormed to a stunning 5.86 seconds to take the lead after two qualifying runs. In Pro Stock and Top Methanol Bengt Ljungdahl and Dennis Habermann are the provisional leaders after day one. Continue reading

The Main Event, the lights turn green again for a challenging 2018 FIA European Drag Racing Championship

Only one week to go and the 2018 FIA European Drag Racing Championship kicks off with The Main Event at Santa Pod Raceway. After a long winter, drivers, teams and fans are looking forward to the start of the new season where everybody has to start from zero again. And at The Main Event that zero has more than one meaning. All teams can forget their gathered Santa Pod data as they will have to find a new set-up for a brand new state-of-the-art all concrete racetrack! In all four categories the 2017 champions will defend their hard fought titles, but will once again meet tough competition as in all classes last year’s top contenders are back for more. VP Racing Fuels official racing fuel partner for Speedgroup

VP Racing Fuels and Speedgroup are proud to announce that they have closed a deal that makes VP Racing Fuels the official racing fuel partner for Speedgroup for the next three years. Duncan Micallef wants to take a second TF crown back home to Malta

For Duncan Micallef 2017 will be a year to remember forever. He claimed his first FIA European Top Fuel Championship, won three races, was crowned Maltese Sportsman of the Year for the second consecutive time and had numerous prize giving galas to attend with the official FIA Prize Giving ceremony in Versailles, Paris, as a highlight. The Top Fuel champion took some time to think about the future, but decided to come back for a title defence. Another nitrous car on the strip

More good news for the Pro Modified class. Lars Järpler is a former crew member who will be racing his own car in 2018. Lars has been part of Pro Mod racing for a long time, the last couple of seasons in Roger Johansson and Rolf Simonssons teams. In addition, he has been racing in other classes in his earlier career. Now it’s time to go racing with his own Pro Mod car and team in the 2018 Summit Racing EDRS Series.

Sandro Bellio made a stormy entrance in the FIA European Top Methanol ranks last season. The young Belgian won his debut race, finished runner-up in the second race, to win again and fall only 0.023 seconds short of the European record in his third outing with the family run Chevy Monte Carlo.
