The Tierp Internationals, some highlights and notable events

The Tierp Internationals had everything that makes drag racing so interesting. After the rain shortened opening round at Santa Pod, round two of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship finished without any problems and with large numbers of entrants in all classes, exciting races, great elapsed times, a new European record and a rookie winning his first FIA race all made the Tierp Internationals a great event. The qualifying and eliminations results were published on the Dragracingeurope.com website during the event, and all details can always be reviewed in the excellent live coverage on Eurodragster.com. Duncan Micallef, Sandro Bellio, Bengt Ljungdahl and Michael Gullqvist win at Tierp Internationals in Sweden

Duncan Micallef from Malta raced to victory in the Top Fuel final of the Tierp Internationals, round two of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship at Tierp Arena, Sweden. In Top Methanol Sandro Bellio surprised with a win in his first ever FIA race by defeating Dennis Habermann in the final. Reigning champion Michael Gullqvist was the winner in Pro Modified and reset the European record to 5.836 seconds, while Bengt Ljungdahl defeated Stefan Ernryd in the Pro Stock final to take the win. Anita Mäkelä (Top Fuel), Sandro Bellio (Top Methanol), Michael Gullqvist (Pro Modified) and Bengt Ljungdahl (Pro Stock) claimed the number one qualifying positions at the Tierp Internationals at Tierp Arena and will lead their respective categories into Sunday’s eliminations at round two of the 2017 FIA European Drag Racing Championship. Antti Horto raced to the number one qualifying position in Top Fuel at the first day of qualifying for the Tierp Internationals, round two of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship. In Top Methanol Sandro Bellio is the surprising leader after two runs. Jimmy Ålund made headlines by claiming the number one qualifying position is Pro Stock and Pro Modified as well!

Tierp Arena and Alastaro, next stops for the FIA European Drag Racing Championship

After the rain shortened start of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship at Santa Pod Raceway, the teams have a tight schedule ahead of them with the Tierp Internationals and the FHRA Nitro Nationals separated by only one weekend off in which to service their cars. The key players from Santa Pod will also be at Tierp and Alastaro, but will be joined by many new competitors who will start their season in northern Europe. With a great entry in all of the Pro classes, the FIA European Drag Racing Championship accelerates to the next level with the Tierp Internationals and the FHRA Nitro Nationals. Continue reading

The Main Event from a different point of view

The FIA European Drag Racing Championship kicked off with the traditional Main Event at Santa Pod Raceway. After two great days of qualifying with sunshine and summer temperatures, mother nature had other ideas for elimination day, and before the semi-finals arrived, rain brought an early end to The Main Event. But looking at the competition in all classes, the elapsed times so early in the season, and some new young drivers making their licencing passes, it seems like we have a great season ahead of us. Rain brings early end to opening round of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship

Rain brought an early end to The Main Event at Santa Pod Raceway, the opening round of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship. After an exciting first round of all FIA classes with several surprising results, and the quarter finals of Pro Modified, rain made it impossible to continue racing and finish the first race meeting of the year in the most prestigious drag racing championship of Europe. Anita Mäkelä raced to the number one qualifying position in Top Fuel at the first day of qualifying for The Main Event, the first race of the 2017 FIA European Drag Racing Championship. In Pro Modified Kev Slyfield surprised with a 6.15 seconds personal best to take the lead after two qualifying runs. In Pro Stock Bengt Ljungdahl is the provisional leader and in Top Methanol Dennis Habermann is the leader after day one. Continue reading

The Main Event kicks off a new season in the FIA European Drag Racing Championship

With less than a week to go, the 2017 FIA European Drag Racing Championship kicks off with The Main Event at Santa Pod Raceway. All drivers will start from zero again and they all have a fair chance of leading the championship in their respective categories after one race. But more important is the question of who will have that number one at the end of the season after six races. In  Top Fuel, reigning champion Anita Mäkelä will face some strong competition, but the same can be said about champion Michael Gullqvist in Pro Modified. Pro Stock will have a new number one at the end of the season as 10-time FIA European champion Jimmy Ålund will not defend his title. Top Methanol will see the first European champion in the new combined Funny Car and Dragster competition. Continue reading
