Antti Horto, Sandro Bellio, Michael Gullqvist and Jimmy Ålund winners at Tierp Arena

Antti Horto from Finland raced to victory in the Top Fuel final of the Dico Internationals, round five of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship at Tierp Arena, Sweden. It was the first win for the young Finnish driver this season, who is also the number two in the championship standing at this moment. In Top Methanol Sandro Bellio won for the second consecutive time at Tierp Arena, as the young Belgian driver won the first Top Methanol race of his career in June at the same track. Reigning Pro Modified champion Michael Gullqvist was the winner in his category and also reset the European record to 5.834 seconds. In Pro Stock 10-time FIA European champion Jimmy Ålund defeated Stefan Ernryd in the final and took the win. Continue reading

Liam Jones, Timo Habermann, Åke Persson and Jimmy Ålund number one qualifiers at Dico Internationals

Liam Jones (Top Fuel), Timo Habermann (Top Methanol), Åke Persson (Pro Modified) and Jimmy Ålund (Pro Stock) claimed the number one qualifying positions at the Dico Internationals at Tierp Arena and will lead their respective categories into Sunday’s eliminations at round five of the 2017 FIA European Drag Racing Championship. Liam Jones raced to the number one qualifying position in Top Fuel at the first day of qualifying for the Dico Internationals, round five of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship. In Top Methanol Timo Habermann stormed to 5.30 seconds and is the provisional leader at Tierp Arena, Sweden. In Pro Modified Åke Persson was quickest and leads an extremely competitive field with two more qualifying sessions to go. Duncan Micallef, Timo Habermann, Michael Gullqvist and Stefan Ernryd winners at Hockenheim NitrOlympX

Duncan Micallef from Malta raced to victory in the Top Fuel final of the NitrOlympX, round four of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship at the HockenheimRing, Germany. It was the third consecutive win for the driver from Malta this season. Micallef defeated Jndia Erbacher who advanced to the final in her first Top Fuel race ever. In Top Methanol home favourite Timo Habermann had a bye run in the final when Sandro Bellio suffered mechanical problems short before the start of the run. Reigning champion Michael Gullqvist was the winner in Pro Modified, while in Pro Stock Stefan Ernryd won his first FIA European Championship race after defeating championship leader Bengt Ljungdahl. FIA European Drag Racing Championship resumes at Hockenheim and Tierp Arena

The 2017 FIA European Drag Racing Championship is at the halfway point of the season and after the summer break part two kicks off with the traditional NitrOlympX at Hockenheim. From Germany the teams have to travel directly to Sweden, as the following weekend the Dico International at Tierp Arena is the next stop on the calendar. For the drivers and teams not only an extremely tight schedule, but in one week the standings in the FIA European Championship can change dramatically. Moottoriurheilukeskus Alastaro Circuit, some highlights and notable events

The FHRA Nitro Nationals is always special, and this year’s edition was no exception. Duncan Micallef and Bengt Ljungdahl each won their second consecutive race. For Timo Habermann is was his first victory of the season, and for Åke Persson his maiden win in the FIA European Drag Racing Championship. Duncan Micallef from Malta raced to victory in the Top Fuel final of the FHRA Nitro Nationals, round three of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship at Alastaro, Finland. In Top Methanol Timo Habermann was the quickest all day and claimed the trophy. Åke Persson was the winner in Pro Modified and that was the Swedes first ever victory in the FIA European Championship. Friday Pro Modified and Pro Stock leaders Michael Gullqvist and Jimmy Ålund couldn’t improve on their earlier performance, but it was enough to remain in the lead of their classes. In Top Fuel and Top Methanol Stig Neergaard and Dennis Habermann were the new number one qualifiers after Saturday qualifying for the FHRA Nitro Nationals at Alastaro and will lead their respective categories into Sunday’s eliminations at round three of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship.
