Anita Mäkelä, Michael Gullqvist, Sandro Bellio and Jimmy Ålund winners at season-opening The Main Event at Santa Pod Raceway

Anita Mäkelä from Finland raced to victory by defeating Maja Udtian from Norway in a new European record in an all-female Top Fuel final at Santa Pod Raceway. Michael Gullqvist from Sweden defeated his countryman Mats Eriksson to take the win in Pro Modified, while multiple FIA European Pro Stock champion Jimmy Ålund took the win in Pro Stock by beating Michael Malmgren in the final. In the Top Methanol final Sandro Bellio was too quick for Monty Bugeja and is the leader in the championship after the season-opening race of the 2019 FIA European Drag Racing Championship. Anita Mäkelä, Sandro Bellio, David Vegter and Michael Malmgren number one qualifiers after final qualifying for The Main Event

Anita Mäkelä (Top Fuel), Sandro Bellio (Top Methanol), David Vegter (Pro Modified) and Michael Malmgren (Pro Stock) claimed the number one qualifying positions at The Main Event at Santa Pod Raceway and will lead their respective categories into Monday’s eliminations at the opening round of the 2019 FIA European Drag Racing Championship. Anita Mäkelä, Jonny Lagg, Michael Malmgren and Jimmy Ålund leaders after the first day of qualifying for The Main Event at Santa Pod Raceway

Anita Mäkelä raced to the number one qualifying position in Top Fuel at the first day of qualifying for The Main Event, the first race of the 2019 FIA European Drag Racing Championship. The reigning Top Fuel champion stormed to a great 3.87 seconds in her second qualifying attempt. In Pro Modified reigning champion Jimmy Ålund took the lead with a great 5.86 seconds. In Pro Stock Michael Malmgren is the surprise leader after day one while in Top Methanol Jonny Lagg is the provisional leaders after day one. Continue reading

The FIA European Drag Racing Championship kicks off in high gear with The Main Event

Only a few days to go and the 2019 FIA European Drag Racing Championship kicks off with The Main Event at Santa Pod Raceway. It’s a flying start of the season as with only a one weekend break, Tierp Arena in Sweden is the second stop on the tour. Anita Mäkelä (Top Fuel), Bengt Ljungdahl (Pro Stock) and Jimmy Ålund (Pro Modified) will all defend their 2018 titles. Only Top Methanol will definitely have a new champion as Dennis Habermann will skip the first half of the 2019 season. One thing is for sure, it will be a tough and close fight as in all categories the competitors have invested in new parts to challenge the reigning champions. Continue reading

Susanne Callin after a break back in Top Fuel action

Seventeen years after her debut in the Top Fuel category and fourteen years after she had her last race in the FIA European Drag Racing Championship, Susanne Callin is back where she wants to be, behind the wheel of a Top Fuel car. At the Festival of Power, Callin made the first test runs to get used to the power again and to be well prepared when the lights turn green at The Main Event, round one of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship. “There is nothing that is even close to the feeling of being in one of those storming cars, which is something I definitely have missed!” said Callin about her fast approaching comeback. Johnny Bee Good in Pro Mod

It was not a secret that John Tebenham would make his entrance in the Pro Modified category this season. But this is how the 1953 Corvette will look when it comes to Santa Pod Raceway in May for Tebenham’s first official runs in the car. If the licencing procedure goes according to plan, Tebenham will go for a full tour in the 2019 FIA European Pro Modified Championship. Continue reading

Tethys Back in the saddle

“The last time I made a public announcement about my racing, it was to say that I had cancer, which had forced me to take a step back. While I’m not completely out of the woods yet, I’m fortunate that my health is currently good, at the moment I’m cancer free and can get on with life again,” said Tethys about his comeback in the Top Fuel category of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship.
