FIA European Drag Racing Championship

Presenting the FIA Championship leaders..

Anita Mäkelä – Top Fuel Dragster

TOP FUEL DRAGSTER: Finland Anita Mäkelä took the lead already after championship round #1 at Santa Pod. At Tierp Anita and team delivered again by taking the no. 1 position after qualifying ET 3.97 sec at a speed of 480 km/h. During round one of eliminations Anita improved further running a 3.92. This lady is sure after the European Champion title!

Mats Eriksson – Pro Modified

PRO MODIFIED: Swede Mats Eriksson and his Green Goblin team has experienced a few seasons of setbacks. In 2014 they started a cooperation with tuner and Top Doorslammer pilot Adam Flamholc, and step by step the team has sorted the car out and has again become a top contender for event wins and a championship title. Winners at round #1 at Santa Pod and number 4 qualifier at Tierp with 6.00 sec. Mats won the first round and was still in the ladder when the remaining eliminations was called off due to rain.

Jimmy Ålund – Pro Stock Car

PRO STOCK CAR: Jimmy Ålund is after his 10th Champions title this season! And what as start it has been for Jimmy and crew. An event win at Santa Pod in combination with setting both new European ET and speed records, was just the start. At Tierp the success continued. Ålund no 1 qualifier at 6.4985 sec. (which again was a record). We won´t go as far as stating Jimmy Ålund is unbeatable this season, but at the moment it sure looks that way!

Leif Andreasson – Top Methanol Funny Car

TOP METHANOL FUNNY CAR: At the season opening event at Santa Pod in May Andreasson was highest on the podium and at Tierp it looked promising, second quickest at 5.72 sec after Johan Lindberg. But during the first round of elimination things turned bad in an instant when opponent Mikael Larsson lost control  over his funny car and hit Andreassons car. What was a nasty crash luckily  ended without any serious injuries and Leif even got out of the car himself. Larsson could return home from hospital a day later. We imagine Andreasson has a hard time enjoying the lead  and will be back with updates in our prewview for the next championship event at Alastaro Finland July 2-5th.

Jonny Lagg – Top Methanol Dragster

TOP METHANOL DRAGSTER: This championship leader did what he could at Tierp and qualified  with a best ET of 5.52 sec/414 km.  The main struggle being that he was the only contender qualified. Stefan Gunnarsson who was entered had chassis problems and was also focusing on upgrading his licence to be able to compete in Top Fuel Dragster as well. The forecast for the upcoming Finland race looks gloomy at this time and the methanol class is experiencing a recession this season with few contestants. The Habermann Bros is expected to join the championship again after Finland. Meanwhile Lagg does what he can to go down the track run after run and event after event. And crowd pleasing entertainment it is..
