Funny Bike

Funny Bike is a drag racing class for motorcycles. It is the two-wheeled equivalent of Top Methanol Funny Car.

Since 2012 the Funny Bike Class is run within the EDRS European Drag Racing Series. It is a class with teams spread in many countries in Europe and the class is stable and growing.

The class consists of heavily modified motorcycles equipped with different combinations of turbocharger or supercharger, fuel injection or carburetor, and powered by methanol, ethanol, gasoline or nitromethane. Turbochargers and superchargers may not be used with nitromethane. Some countries allow nitrous oxide injection. Transmissions are purpose-built.

The strongest-running Funny Bikes achieve 6-second elapsed times over the quarter-mile with terminal speeds of well over 300km/h (186mph). These machines tend to use larger turbos and methanol, with three or four gears and multi-stage clutches. The engines can generate up to 800hkr/hp. Portable starters are generally used.

Maximum rear-tyre width for Funny Bikes is 14 inches and wheelie bars are required. The class uses the Pro Tree start system. Smokey burnouts are the norm and engines are usually dismantled and clutches adjusted between rounds. Each country’s national rules apply.
